Hon. W. L. Bradshaw, candidate
for judge of the circuit court, 7th
judicial district, was born iu Fut
narn county. Missouri, on Septem
ber 28, 1858; moved to Oregon with
the family of his father, Col. E. C. j
Bradshaw. in 1865 and Bettled in
Yamhill county, where his educa
tion began in the common schools
of Lafayette. He afterwards at -
tended the state agricultural col -
lege at Corvallis, going thence to

gniduated m the class of ,1881.
Returning to Yamhill county, he
was admitted to practice in the Oc
tober term of supreme court in the
same year, and began his legal pro-
feesion in partnership with his fa
ther. : In 1883 Judge Bradshaw
married a daughter of Dr. H. R.
Littlefield. He continued in the
practice of law in Yamhill county
wfth his father until the latter re
moved to Wasco county in 1886,
whence his son had completed ar
rangements to follow him, when the
father died in 1888. The judge
came to Wasco county the follow
ing year and entered into practice
with J. L. Story, Esq., the firm be
ing Story & Bradshaw. May 1,
1802, he was appointed by Gov.
Pennoyer, judge of the 7th judicial
district, made vacant by the death
of Hon. J. H. Bird. The judge has
always enjoyed a large and lucra
tive practice, and his appointment
gave universal satisfaction to his
friends and his party. This confi
dence and trust has been amply
verified, his record in the courts of
this district being too well known
to need any words . of praise from
us. The press, and people through
out the district, irrespective of par
ty affiliations, unite in doing him
honor. His prompt business-like
methods and the saving to the tax
payers thereby are fully apprecia
ted by the people. Judge Brad
shaw ought to be our next circuit
judge, and we feel justified in be
lieving he will be.
The Globe is an independent pa
paer without either democratic or
republican or- any other party
strings on it. It is entirely free to
criticise any and all parties, and it
intends to do so as often as it thinks
they need criticism. It is working
not for party but for Gilliam coun
ty and the best interests of this
part of the state. If it has to speak
out plainly betimes of men and
measures,' it does so, not to gratify
art ungenerous spite, but in behalf
of what it believes to be the peo
ple's interests. If to be independ
ent is to have no opinions of one's
own about anything or anybody,
then the Globe is not independent.
True independence rises above par
ty, above personal or selfish con-
si derations and advocates a policy !

because it believes it to be right, j
and that is exactly the kind of pa
per the Globe is.
The following has a tendency to
encourage the country people who
imagine the town and city people
are the only persons who enjoy life.

Lone Rock Rumblings. ,
Fat Lynch was in town the other day
and reports work on he Lone Hock &
Heppner road progressing rapidly and
solidly it being mostly bedrock.
, S. S. Kidd of Pendleton is located hero
for a few tlays with 11 head of the liuest
Shorthorn Durham bulls ever brought
to the state. His prices range from $75
to $140 per head.
Tom Johnson was up here , Saturday
looking for his saddle horses, and suc
ceeded in finding one of them three miles
east of towif, fasteuened onto a barbed
wire fence, but not seriously cut.
According to the official directory in
j the Fossil paper, every precinct in the
county, except Lone Rock, has a justice
of the peace. As this is the oldest pre
cinct of all, ' it surely is entitled to a
