BASKET BALL GAME
Although beaten by a score of 3 to 18, tht Beaverton team
outplayed Astoria big team on tenmwork. The score stood 16 to 14
in favor of Astoria until last 8 minutes of play. Erenden was the
star for the boys by the sea scoring 6 baskets and 2 fouls, while
Ireland starred for Beaverton with 5 baskets and 4 fouls. Allhands
was in the limelight for fancy guarding. Berst, Barnes and Davis
showed their class in the game.
Manager Roy Berst states that the boys received a royal we
come and have the promise of another game.
Beaverton will play the McLaughlin team, one of the fastest
quintette in the state, on the Beaverton floor Saturday night, Jan
uary IT. Everybody come.
FIRE ON MONDAY,
A fire at Johansen'-s house located at the corner of First and
Frohanauer's boulevard brought Hose Company No. 1 inside of 4
minv.te'o. After the fire bel rang, Monday morning Firemen Mer
cer and Fisher ran into the kitchen and found a big map on the
wall neur the stove on fire. Mercer grabbed the burning map that
was on the floor and ran outdoor with it, while Fisher took the tea
kettle the stove and fixed the blaze on the walj.
Vvi hose wasn't connected to the hydrant, because it was put
on tho icel backwards, and might run the water back into the hy
dran t.
md Mrs, Johansen didn't know their house was on fire.
Craig, near-neighbor, noticed the blaze and phoned to
Charles Essick rang the curfew.
