S. P. BRAKEMAN FALLS
Green burg, Or. Brakeman Blood had a narrow eicape from death here last Saturday morning.
He fell from top of a box car ra the trestle near the 6. E. crossing, striking on a projecting timber,
turning in midair, and hitting another beam with his head. Receiving severe injuries he was rushed
to the hospital at Portland.
PRSOPECTS FOR GREAT EXHIBITION
Work is being rushed on ths final preparations for the County Fair to be held Thursday, Fri
day and Saturday of next week on the Fair grounds sast of Forest Grove. The stock sheds are now
being constructed. Stall room fcr GO head of cattle will be provided, and" everything now indicates
that all available room will be taken. The dairy breeds will be well represented. There will be an
especially etrong showing of Holsteins while the Jersey classes will all be sufficiently well filled to in
sure keen competition. Al Chalmers is arranging to have the fine herd of Shorthorns that he has on
exhibition this week at the State Fair at Salens, returned in time for showing at the County Fair.
, , The management has all along been desirous of conducting a clean fair, and no objectionable
features of any kind will be allowed on the grounds. Such amusements as" have been provided will
be such as everyone can enjoy. y .
The following events have been "scheduled for the racing program'; and present indications are
that every race Will be well filled :
THURSDAY.
2:15 Pace One mile, three heats, every heat a race; purse, $200.
Free-for-all Trot Mile, three huats, every heat a race; purse, $250.
FRIDAY.
Farmers' Buggy Race Half-mile', best two in three; purse, $50.
, v SATURDAY.
Free-for-all Pace Mile, three heatB,' every heat a race; purse, 250.
2:20 Trot Mile, three heats, every heat a race; purse, $200. ' '
Special round-trip rate3 of one and pne-third have been granted by all the railroads, and it is
probable that special hourly service between Forest Grove and HilUooro will also be established.
A number of Portland automobile houses are preparing to put on a big auto show, and several

MORE ROCK ROAD
The town has completed a fine piece of Rock road work, com
mencing at the Livengood corner, and rocking the main street,
outh to near the M, S. church three blocks and three street
crossings. The street was graded to a high center, and the rock
put in the center and rolled down well by the gasoline roller. Lou
Wolf, engineer, always does a good job rolling. Fred Pappel had
