Mystery Tied with Red Tape
The time has long passed when a
bank wu sumunded with, to much
mystery and red tape that euitomen
felt ill at eaae every time they went
to the bank to transact Dullness
Today, the progressive bank is a
FRIENDLY INSTITUTION design-
ed to give service cheerfully and as a
BUSINESS DUTY rather than as a
favor.
At least, that is how tliis bask re
gards it.
Perhaps that is one of the good
reasons why many refer tc this bank
as "my bank," based on the spirit of
friendliness and co-operation they
encounter whenever they call.
Perhaps, too, it is another reason
why people like to save where they
think they are welcome, and where, in
addition, they know their money is
absolutely safe.
Whether you wish to open a sav
ings or checking account, or wish to
transact business in one of the other
departments of this bank, you will
appreciate this spirit of friendliness
which we believe is good business.

LOCALS FROM FOREST
GROVE NEWS-TIMES
J. A. Thornburgh, President of the
Forest Grove National Bank, narrowly
escaped serious injury on Monday of
this week when his automobile was
chashed into by that 01 a traveling
man just this side of the railroad
crossing on the Base Line road at
Hillsboro. Mr. Thomburgh was trav
eling east on the extreme right of the
road and the other machine in cross
ing the railroad track crossed
slaunchways and the driver was look
ing at the cannery until Mr. Thorn
burgh's warning brought him to a
realization that he was approaching
another car. In making an effort to
turn out of the way oi the Thornburgh
car be turned his wheel the wrong
way nd ran into Mr. Thomburgh's
car broadside, the hubs of the ma
chines evidently catciiing in such a
manner as to break the Thornburgh
machine in two, the frame of the fine
new Franklin being broken on both
sides, the gearing torn out a fender
smashed and otherwise damaged. The
other machine escaped with a bent
axle and a smashed fender. Luckily
no one was injured in the wreck. A
peculiar thing about the accident was
the fact that the body of Mr. Thorn
urgh's car was not even scratched,
while the frame was practically brok
en in two. The traveling man carried
insurance and frankly acknowledged
that he was on the wrong side of the
road. Neither car was going fast.

Mr. and lira, Charles Boss and
grandson, Beginal Whits, of Deary,
Idaho, are here for a visit with their
old Minnesota friend, P. P. Flint and
family, who located here some three
months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Boss like
the town and country so well that the
are already looking for a place to
purchase for a home, and Mr. Flint
is giving them every assistance with
the full assurance that he will cement
more firmly the friendship formed
years ago in their native state.
Emil Hansen and family, who came

they parted 18 years ago in Minne

that he has purchased the Wilcox

make their home here. When they
parted in the Wolverine Btate nearly

Velie Simplicity
Velie Cars are simple of construction and easily operated.
The Velie Motor is equipped with an internally heated vaporizer that reduces to a
minimum the troubles with low grade fuel and gives vastly more miles per gallon than
the ordinary vaporizer. It is also balanced, with lour bearings on the shaft and durable-bronzed-backed
bearings throughout, making the operation of the motor from the
driver's viewpoint, simplicity itself.
The radiator is of the honeycomb type with maximum cooling ability.
A depressed footboard gives ample leg room and pedals may be adjusted to please-
Velie gear shifts are quiet, positive and effective. The clutch is smooth but posi
tive and the gliding pickup not only protects the car but assures dependable application
of power.
A special motometer gives the driver at a glance the condition of his engine. No
need to stop and get out to see if the motor is heating.
The mahogany cowl board has every instrument within easy reach of the driver
while seated at the wheel
Tools are arranged in the door next to the driver. No need to raise the seat cush
ions nor disturb the other occupants of the car to get at the things you need to make the
few possible adjustments that may be desirable when driving.
Timkea axles are used on every Velie car. Drive-shafts are easily removable.
Starting, lighting and ignition systems are independent in function and thoroughly
dependable.
Velie brakes are larger and better than ever. A slight touch stops the car in
stantly. Levers are long and within easy reach.
A short turning-radius simplifies driving at crowded intersections.
Rayfield carburetor makes cold weather starting simple indeed.
You won't have accidents with a Velie because there was something about
r the ear which you didn't understand. The Velie is simple and dependable
. in operation and you can readily see what each part is intended to perform.
