Ignorance of the law excuses no one. If we don't want to abide by the laws of this country, perhaps there are countries which have different laws. ; A Real Taxpayer. all that w would like.w.W. In reeard to sidewalks I think ihat the town has made a very good record - fx itseK during the past two or three years. Practically he entire sidewalk tf tae town has been rebuilt daring this period.: also a great.deal of new walk has been huilt. .t There is a little old walk wbich the writer is aware needs rebuilding, bat '-but we must remember that notwjia- standing our present "prospsritjr soaw of our taxpayers and fellow citizens aae a little cramped in the purse. With due t respect to previous councils, tne writer desires to pay a little tribute totbecona- cllmen and mayor who have aerved da-- ring the past year. . . It is not necessary -to remind the warfare of the condition of the citya books a year ago now and to the present council belongs the credit of bringing rorder out of xhaos and rrecovericg fer the city the money which was due it To the present council is due .the.. credit of placing the water system on paying basis. Instead of facing a deficit of $800 from our water system as was the case in 1915 we find a small balanoe on the right side of the ledger, for IKS. The work of -the present .council has been of such a character that not much showing is made on .the surf ace, and it has not been the policy of the mayor ana councilmen to crow about vwhat ihtff -have accomplished. , It will be a lone time before this town gets another council who-will do their worit esuonscientiously and as intelligently as the council of 1916. I believe in givfcj credit where it is due. I do not beHeve in electing men to a thankless oCoe, without salary, eiviwr them notmna to work with and after they have done then : best, giving them a Jciclj tor net dofcj more. - . - ' ,1 am sorry that "the city has not the finances to publish all notice in Vjt weekly paperbut suchliappenctoibe tie case.
