' We feel that a slight explanation is due subscribers, for although the in side stuff we use may not inter est all there are certainly tome who will be interested with it There will be just as much home news as before and we will put into the paper our best efforts. Regarding our reasons; paper has been steadily advancing since the was began until our supply is now costing us almost double. On top of this advance we find that considerable of the job work which should go to this office is finding a resting place in the pockets of Portland firms, and and many of our merchants have adppted a non-aavertising pro gram which leaves us in the hole when it comes to paying the bills. We cannot publish a paper un less we receive our Bhare of the business. If the merchants of our town wish to take their busi ness to the city and help fill the pockets of the printers who have no interest in the community, verv welt The spirit with which this is fcne . iav-iiowvwav Ojnes- tionaoie. - . In view of all this we will be in the future compelled to cut out all the frills in order to keep our heads above water. To the merchants of this town we wisn to announce that we have a job shop and will care for their work at a reasonable rate, if they wish to take their business else where, then at least give us the agency for their business as we are acquainted with several of the out of town shops who would he glad to accommodate anyone wfsliing to get their business done outside of Beaverton. To you Mr. Reader: When you have any legal printing do not forget to instruct your law yer that there is a paper in your community which is in need of the work. Be loyal to your home town. . - City Etecboa Held. ''There was little excitement during Wednesday's election. Although several names were written in on the ballot there seams to have been no organized opposition, The number of votes cast was not great there being about 35 in all The results were as followsr M. P. Cady, mayor, 18; Mrs. Spraner for the same office, 8. Two councilman for two years, R. Fehlman, 81, Mrs. Gray 4; F. Ferguson 27. Councilman for one year, H. 0; Stibe. 23. C. E. Hedge for re corder, 27. Chas. Fry for the same office 1, V Editor Beaverton Times: . I have read with much amuse ment the article by "A Long Suffering Taxpayer," and am glad to see some one take an in terest in the town affairs. The writer of that piece told the truth in many things, but he ev idently is not familiar with the doings of the council. In the first place he is too late in com plaininghaving waited tin the town was deeply in debt and heavily burdened with contracts not for the interest of the tax payer. He should remember when, this administration took charge there was an empty treasury and it took a long time before the town realized on money justly due it. This has been the most eeon omieal administration Beaverton ever had. We used to get $1800 saloon money and taxes too; now with taxes only the torn has not gone in debt and has put the water oh a paying basis, even at the exorbitant price we are pay ing for water. 'V.-. On August 29, 1916, the Cham ber of Commerce sent a resolu tion to council urging them to pass an ordinance compelling prop erty owners to clean up. The mayar urged the council to pass such an ordinance, but they failed to do so, so do not be too hard on the mayor until you know the facts. This year not a cent has been spent for elections, except print ing, and ne- marshal! salary. The town has been taxed to the limit and that barely nays run ning expenses, say nothing about improvements. J. hJ. hedge, . Coaecfl Proceeaiafs. Bump and Katherlne Lilly. Rex E. Pearson and Rose O. Wolff of Orenco, Oregon, . Basket Ball at Tigard. A frisky bunch of basket shooters of local production mad a trip to Tigard last Friday even ing to demonstrate their ability as good losers to the younger genera'.on of the village by the sea (of mud) . Dm ing the course of the came the Beaverton boyf demonstrated this peculiar trait to the entire satisfaction of all. The Tigard quintette understand the retaining part of the game better than they do the actus! playing and depend more upoa their grip on the opponert clothes than upon fast playing. For rough stuff the Bearerton players put a crimp in their tft loused hides which only time wiH ' effectually erase. The final soot after the flesh and blood was cleaned away stood 15 to 8 la Tigard's favor. Dr. Myers has taken actlva charge of a high school orches tra, but as the number of mujl cians in the high school are lim ited he has decided to extend an invitation to all who wish to Join to be on hand-at the next re hearsal. With this outside as sistance a good orchestra will tm doubt result .
