Eager and daughters, Betty and Virginia spent Saturday in Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Fiske of Arlington, were visiting Sunday at the Frank Little home. Mrs. C. E. O. Montague and Mrs. George Sheard were Pendleton vis itors Monday. Mr. and Mrs. George Sheard and Mrs. C. E. 0. Montague spent Mon day in Pendleton. Clark Wood was over the hill from Weston Wednesday and transacted business in Athena. Mrs. Rose Miller left Wednesday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Oliver Dawson in Portland. Miss Glea Sias spent the week:end with her parents here, from her school at Hermiston. Little Miss Pauline Lieuallen of Adams spent Teusday at the Fred Pinkerton home here. Miss Cornelia Tomes of Pendleton spent the week-end in Athena at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. f . Bloom Rev. and Mrs. C. A. Sias and others from ' Athena attended the church convention in Milton this week. The Athena service station is mak ing preparations for installing an Ethyl gasoline storage tank and pump. Mrs. Glenn Dudley and son Glenn, Jr. spent the week-end in Pendleton at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stater. Mr. and Mrs. John Standage and Mr. and Mrs. W. McPherson enjoyed a picnic on the Walla Walla river Sunday. C. E. 0. Montague and Penn Har ris were among Athena people who transacted business in Walla Walla Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Harve Roseberry were Sunday guests at the home of Mrs. Roseberry's Bister, Mrs. Des Voignes in Adams. Miss Maebelle Duncan, professional nurse of Walla Walla, visited this week at the home of her parents near town. Two more community dances will be held at Adams, funds for which were contributed at the dance last Satur day night. Mrs. H. A. Street and daughter, Ruth spent the week-end in Portland. Esther Berlin spent Sunday in Wal la' Walla. The Press is indebted to York Dell for a boquet of magnificent tu lips raised in the yard at his home on third street. Mrs, E. C. Prestbye returned Sun day from a visit of three weeks with relatives at Seattle and other places on the Sound. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Campbell of Pendleton and Mrs. Cayser of Port land visited at the W. E. Campbell home, Tuesday. About 700 chickens are prospering at the Roy Russell farm southwest of Athena. ' The Russells are also raising ducks and geese. Miss Delia Bryant spent the week end in Baker. She made the trip by motor and was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Brownell. Mr. and Mrs. James Cresswell and son Jimmy were dinner guests Wed nesday night of Mrs. Lillian Craig and daughter, Bernice in Walla Wal la. Miss Helen Hansell had as her guest this week, Miss Helen Rowe of Yakima, Wash. Miss Hansell with her guest motored to Waitsburg, Wednes day. The Helix schools sponsored an at tractive fete May day. A queen was crowned with impressive ceremonies and elves, pixies and fairies were seen in clever dances. The high school picnic scheduled for Wednesday of this week was postponed in hopes the road to Bing ham Springs would.be in better con dition at a later date. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Rothrock and Mrs. Fearon Smith and small son left Sunday for Portland. While there little Cecil Smith will receive treat ments for an injured spine. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Zerba, Miss Edna Zerba, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Granville Cannon made up a picnic party spend ing Sunday at Thorn Hollow. Among the Athena people who at tended the high school program in Adams last Friday evening were Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Bloom, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Swift and Mr. and Mrs. Harve Roseberry. Mrs. P. S. Mumpower, of Portland was a guest Monday night of her sis ter, Mrs. W. W. McPherson, driving up from Celilo, where she was in company with a fishing party from the metropolis. Mrs. Dudley Rogers andlittle son Bobby, were down from Washtucna, Wash., last week visiting at the E. C. Rogers home. Mrs. Rogers 'who will soon join Dud at the ranch near Creston. B. C. was accompanied Dy her mother, Mrs. Jay Gross. Miss Mildred Stanton was honor guest at a birthday dinner Tuesday eveninsr. Two shades 01 orchid iris made effective table decorations. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. 0. Montague were ad ditional guests. Miss Lois Johnson played at a large tea given by the Eugene Branch of the American Association of University Women for senior wo men at the university. The tea was given at Alumni hall. Members of the 3 o' 4 club and their families enioved a picnic on the banks of the Umatilla river Sun day. Games followed by a bountiful lunch were the order of the day. Forty-three were present. Mr. and Mrs. Penn Harris accom panied Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wilson on a 1aunt to Bineham Springs last Sunday. They report that the road is very good in some places but in others is exceptionally rough. Athena friends of the Kretzer boys will be interested to hear that Dorsey recently finished a tour of the United States. He has invested in the mercantile business in San Francisco where he will reside. The grade baseball game at Weston Tuesday, resulted in the downfall of the Weston graders, Athena won 18 to 13. The local grades give Weston a chance for revenge Monday after noon on the home diamond. Mrs. J. B. Saylor was a guest over the week-end at the home of her brother, G. R. Gerking. Mrs. Saylor left for Corvallis where she will be a guest of her daughter, Nelma, who will graduate from the State College this year. At a meeting held Monday at the District No. 2 school house a vote WAR taken and it was decided to dis continue the school for next year. Only two pupils would be in atten dance and they will probably attend school in Athena. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Rose have mov ed into a tourist cottage on South 3rd street temporarily, from the Reeder farm home, which was re cently destroyed by fire. Their son Robert Lee will remain in Helix un til the close of school. Mrs. Lisle Grey and little sons will leave tomorrow for Harvard Idaho, where they will visit at the home of Mrs. Gray's mother, Mrs. George Bay. They will spend the remainder of this month in Idaho, returning here the 29th. Kenneth, the little 3-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hansell has been a very sick child this week at the Marion Hansell home. Mrs. Ray Hansell has returned from the hos pital a Walla Walla and is some what improved in health. Mrs. A. W. Logsdon accompanied by her daughter Donna and her mo ther, Mrs. Hardy Mansfield will leave tonight for Bremerton where they will visit at the home of Mrs. James Harris. They will visit in Seattle before their return. Professor Ronald ("Scotty") Kretz er was recently elected supervisor of several high schools in Montana. He has also been contracted by El lison White of Portland for an all summer lecture tour. His subject will be "Modern Education." E. A. Dudlev who has been serious ly ill at College Place for several weeks left for Portland Sunday ac companied by Mrs. Dudley and son Glenn. Word received here this week is to the effect that the patient is slightly improved and it is hoped that an operation may be averted. Athena eardeners and farmers of this vicinity were disappointed Fri day evening when threatening clouds accompanied by thunder and light ning passed over and a dust storm followed instead of the hoped for shower. Continued winds and sun shine have dried the ground con siderably and moisture would be wel come at this time. Baskets of tulips, lilacs and spirea were used effectively as decoration last Friday at the home of Mrs. W. S. The county road crew is doing good work on the river road. Although not yet completed the road is in fair shape and a number of cars are pass ing over it every day. Will M. Peterson and family visit ed their summer home at the Springs Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Winn and Mr. and Mrs. John Geise spent Monday at their summer cottages here.
