Leonard of Waitsburg was in Athena Wednesday. H. H. Hill and Ed Welch were Mil ton visitors Saturday. Frank English of Pendleton was here from Pendleton Wednesday. Mrs. Maurice Frazier of Milton was an Athena visitor Saturday. Mrs. H. A. Barrett and daughter Helen, spent Wednesday in Walla Walla. Everett Zerba who operates a gar age at Milton paid Athena a visit Tuesday. W H. Morrison well known real estate dealer of Pendleton was here yesterday. Mrs. Sheldon Taylor and daughter Nylene, were Walla Walla visitors Saturday. Mrs. Edith Lumsden who makes her home on Dry . creek visited friends , here Tuesday. , Shirley and Ray Blalock of Pendle ton visited at the home of their aunt Mrs. Laurence Pinkerton last weekend. Miss Hilda Dickenson came up from Arlington and spent Sunday at her home in Athena. H. H. EickhofF came over from Walla Walla Wednesday, and spent the day in Athena. C. D. Morey was a business visitor Wednesday motoring here from his home at State Line. John Banister, greatly improved in health, was in Athena Monday from his home at Weston. Hugh Carey of Touchet, Washing ton, spent Tuesday and Wednesday with friends in Athena. Wesley Tureman of Kelso, Wash visited at the home of his stepson Fred Kershaw, Wednesday. A number of Athena members of the Eagles lodge attended a meeting in Pendleton, Wednesday night Mrs. Laurence Pinkerton, Mrs. Ad Pinkerton and Mrs. Will Pinkerton motored to Walla Walla Wednesday. An Athena guest last week-end was Mrs. Lillian Dobson, who teaches at South Yoakum. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Swift and Miss Margaret Lee were Walla Walla vis itors Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Burchill of Pendleton is visiting at the home of her daughter Mrs. C. M. Eager. Mrs. Fred Hunot and children of Pendleton visited at the W. E. Camp bell home, Sunday. Miss Vineta Weaver was the week end guest of her sister, Mrs. Frank Hayse, of Touchet. Miss Delia Bryant, Miss Blanche Thorsen and Miss Mary Cameron motored to Portland for the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Koepke and young son spent the week-end visit mg friends and relatives in Walla Walla. Dr. Eugene Osborne who formerly resided here was a visitor in Athena last Saturday from his home in Call forma. The senior class of Athena high school motored to Walla Walla Satur day and had their graduation pictures taken. Mel White and John Maiden, stock men of Lowden vicinity visited Ralph McEwen at the Pine Creek ranch this week. A fellowship dinner was enjoyed Sunday by members of the several churches of Athena at the Christian church. The Methodist missionary society will meet at the home of Mrs. Gor don Watkins Wednesday afternoon, March 25. Word has been received of the im provement in health of Mrs Henry Koepke. Sr.. who has been ill for several months. Mrs. C. M. Eager and daughters, Betty and Virginia, Betty Geiss and Mrs. Ralph McEwen spent Saturday in Walla Walla. . Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Swaggart are here from Portland and will remain at the ranch north of town, for a couple of weeks. Dr. Blatchford is attending the basketball tournament in Salem this week. He will report the results of the tournament in next week's Press. Mrs. M. E. Shurte of Arlington, pent the week-end at the home of her brother, W. 0. Read, returning to her home the fore part f the week. Friends of the Emmett Lee family will regret to hear of Barbara's ser ious illness with scarlet fever. At last reports she was declared out of dang er. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Dudley, Mrs. A. Dudley and Glenn, Jr., motored to Dayton yesterday to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Verne Dudley. A foursome playing contract at the home of Mrs. E. C. Prestbye, Wednes day afternoon included Mrs. C. M. Eager, Mrs. M. L. Watts and Mrs. H. Watts. J. N. Scott, representative, has re turned from Salem where he attend ed the recently closed session of leg islature and was an Athena visitor yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Craigen, (Wavel Mitchell) of Read and Hawley moun tain were Sunday guests a ; the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pittman in Athena. Vera Bently, representing the Ladies' Home Journal publication, visited Athena merchants Wednes day going from here to Walla Walla and Pasco. ' Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Roseberry entertained at dinner Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Swift, Miss Margaret Lee, Edgar Copenhaver and Laurence Copenhaver. Ernest Bell, farmer on Wild Horse creek, who has tried raising peas and beans on summer fallow ground win use the old fashioned farming meth ods this season. Frank Ames, district manager of the Standard Oil company at Pendle ton was a business visitor here Mon- ay. Mr. and Mrs. Ames formerly re sided in Athena. Fred Heath of Read and Hawley mountain was in Athena Tuesday with a load of seed potatoes. He looked forward to a rough trip home on account of the heavy rains. Rev. and Mrs. L. A. Meade and Harold C. Meade left early Monday morning by motor for Santa Paula, California, where they will conduct a series of evangelistic meetings. The Baptist Missionary society will sponsor a cooked food sale Saturday, March 28, at Rogers & Goodman Hardware store. A good chance to procure some splendid "eats" for Sun day dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Penn Harris were din ner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yenney near Walla Walla. The dinner was in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harris wed ding anniversary. Miss Lucille Winn of Adams visit at the Hansell home here Mon day night Miss Helen Hansell and the visitor motored to Walla Walla for the W. S. C. band concert given there that evening. Mrs. M. M. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Elder who have spent several months at the L. R. James Haworth accompanied by Ponder Eslinger and Ralph Haworthl who arrived here recently from Ten nessee by motor, visited Walla Walla and vicinity Saturday. The visitors are enthusiastic about our western country. John LaFever of Los Angeles and F. W. Cunningham of Conijo, Califor nia, who were Athena visitors last week, were en route home after a business trip through Washington and Oregon. Mr. Cunningham is a broth er of Mrs. E. A. Edger of this city, Mrs. Charlotte Dickenson served dinner Sunday in honor of Sims Dick enson's birthday anniversary. Those enjoying the dinner were Mr. Dick' enson, Miss Hilda Dickenson, Miss Phyllis Dickenson, Wilbur Harden and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Dickenson The . Etude club held its regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Gordon Watkins Tuesday afternoon. Business was transacted and chorus practice followed. The next rehearsal will be at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Michener next Monday evening at 7:45 o'clock. Shannon O'Shea, formerly engaged in the poultry business on the Stone place west of Athena, was in town Wednesday from his ranch, near Meacham. Mr. O'Shea has a quanti ty of yellow pine fire wood for sale, and was here taking orders for fu ture delivery. About 150 guests can attest to the hospitality of the local lodge of Knights' of Pythias who entertained at a dancing party Thursday night of last week at the Miller building. Exr cellent music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. C. E. 0. Montague, R. A. Duffield, John Huffman, Fred Bruce, Elmer Johnson and others. Mrs. William Bush entertained the D. O. club Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Clifford Walker. Mrs. A. H. Mclntyre was a guest and thir teen members were nresent. The af ternoon was spent socially and aainty refreshments were served at the tea hour. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Sterling Parris, Friday afternoon, March 27. BAPTIST CHURCH Our revival meetings are over and the work of carrying on begins. All our work has been almost lost unless Athena will now have a revived church. A revived church spells- ser vice for God here and now. Jesus for period of years created great re vival interest, and then went away. At the Sunday morning service Capt. Boys Take Notice Mayor Watts takes this method of warning boys that hereafter they will not be allowed to play baseball or football on the streets of Athena. The practice of playing ball in the streets is dangerous and will not be permit ted. The hazard to limb and life re sulting 'from 'games played in the path of automobile traffic is too great, and the mayor will take measures to put a stop to the -practice, completely.
