Spencer (Doro thy Lee) of Palouse, Wash., were here Friday visiting relatives and friends. Henry Keen, is here from Walla Walla and making preparations to start spring work on his place near Athena. Mrs. Theresa Berlin and daughters have moved to the farm northwest of Athena to reside for the spring and summer. Rob. Marv and Anna Walden of Milton were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Logsdon, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Fred Kershaw will leave short ly for Ontario where she has been recalled by the increasing frailty oi her mother, Mrs. Barbara Willaby. , Mr. and Mrs. Claire Gurney have taken up their iresidence at Hilgard, where Mr. Gurney will be employed for the sDrinsr and summer months. A larsre acreage of peas will be planted in this vicinity by the other farmers shortly. The James Bruce family, former residents of Athena, have moved from their recent home at Helix to Pasco, where Mr. Bruce has the manage ment of a grocery store. Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Monroe of Florence, Oregon, were visitors at the George Green home Saturday, Mr. Monroe is a niece of Mrs. Green, and a former resident of Athena. Mm. Dow left Athena Friday eve ning for Edmonton, Alberta, where she is called by the serious illness of her mother. Mrs. Dow intended to make the journey by motor stage. Mrs. S. M. Campbell and daughter Barbara of Condon, and Mrs. W. T. Solvester of Blalock, sister of Mrs. Prnnfc Little, visited at the Little home in Athena over last week-end. Mrs. M. M. Johns is in Portland and Vancouver, having come so far on her way from Ontario, California, where she has spent the winter. She is expected home in the near future. A contract foursome, playing at the McEwen home Monday included Mrs. M. L. Watts, Mrs. Glenn Dud ley and Mrs. H. I. Watts. A foursome playing contract at the home of Mrs. M. L. Watts Friday af ternoon included Mrs. C. M. Eager, Mrs. E. C. Prestbye and Mrs. H. I. Watts Mrs. Claude Dickenson entertained in honor of her uncle, L. M. Keen, Sunday, when she gave a birthday dinner. Her guests included Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Keen, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gross. Miss Harriet Haines, Miss Alberta Charlton, George Gross and Lester Towne. t Glenn Dudley, Jr., attended a birth day party in Pendleton Saturday, the occasion being the fourth birthday of Gloria Gibbs. Eight other kiddies were present and games, gifts, and the climax of the afternoon, a birth day cake and candles and favors com pleted the festive affair. Mrs. Sheldon Taylor was hostess to the 3 o' 4 club last Thursday af ternoon at her home south of Athe na. Mrs. Bryce Baker won honor for I the afternoon making high score. Mrs. Justin Harwood was awarded the consolation and Mrs. Forrest Zerba was presented with an attractive guest prize. Mrs. Virgil Zerba entertained the! O. D. O. club at her home last Fri day, fourteen members being present. Mrs. Elder was an additional guest The afternoon was spent pleasantly with needlework. The hostess serv ed refreshments at the tea hour. Mrs. William Bush will entertain the club Friday afternoon, March 13, at the home of Mrs. Clifford Walker. , Mrs. Chase Garfield was compli mented at a shower at the Athena Bridge club meeting at the home of Mrs. W. P. Littlejohn last week. Many attractive gifts were received by the honoree which attest to her popularity among her friends here. Many regrets are being expressed at her departure next Monday when, with her daughters, June and Gloria, she leaves Athena to join her hus band Chase Garfield, to reside in Lewiston. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Potter were hosts to the Pinochle club last Thurs day evening. The usual no-hostess dinner was followed by cards, five tables being in play. Honors for the evening went to Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Jenkins, and the consolation prizes were presented to Mrs. Jesse Smith and ,W. E. Campbell. Additional guests were Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Cor nell, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Riffle, of Walla Walla. The next meeting will be at the home of Mr.' and Mrs. A. L. Jenkins. Etude club met at the home of Mrs. Donald Johnson, Tuesday after noon. During the business session the resignation of Mrs. Chase Gar field as president was accepted and Mrs. James Cresswell was elected to fill the office. Mrs. Lowe was elect ed to membership in the club. Fol lowing chorus practice the hostess served tea. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Bloom on south Third street next Tuesday, af ternoon at 3 o'clock. Miss Delia Bryant, Miss Blanche Thorson and Miss Margaret Lee were responsible for a happy surprise for Mr. and Mrs. E. 0. Lee Friday eve ning prior to their departure for Wenatchee. Dancing was enjoyed during the evening, music being fur nished by John Huffman and Fred Bruce. Supper was served by the hostesses. Those present were, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Swift, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Pinkerton, Joyce Pinkerton, Arleen Foster, Fred Huff man, Garth Pinkerton and Lester Towne. Mrs. Chase Garfield complimented members of the Athena Bridge club at luncheon Friday at her home on Adams street. An attractive color scheme of rose and violet was carried out in the appointments for the af ternoon. The tables were centered with miniature baskets of violets and freezias and covers placed for six teen were marked with modernistic cards in the selected coloring. Honors for the play which followed luncheon were won by Mrs. Lloyd Michener, first, Mrs. W. S. Ferguson, second; the guest prize being awarded to Mrs. Laurence Pinkerton. Mrs. Fred Pinkerton was also a guest. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Walker en tertained at a five hundred party Fri day evening. Six tables were in play and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gordon held high score Mrs. A. A. Mclntyre and F. L. Zerba receiving the consolation. The hostess served a two course sup per following the play. The guests included, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Parris, Mr. and Mrs. William Bush, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Gordon, Mr. and Mrs. J. Mrs. Chase Garfield and Mrs. Ernest Bell were honorees at a lunch eon Saturday, when the Etude club entertained at the home of Mrs. Ralph McEwen. Covers were placed for twenty-six at small tables cen tered with spring flowers. The sea sonal note was further accented by gaily colored place cards and dainty baskets of confections in pastel shades. Following luncheon a show er was given which came as a com plete surprise and a host of dainty and useful gifts were presented, each recipient responding charmingly, Mrs. D. A. Lowe and Miss Blanche Thorson were additional guests. Mrs. D. A. Pinkerton was pleasant ly surprised on the occasion of her birthday Wednesday afternoon of last week when a number of her Milton friends invaded her home with a splendid birthday cake and took pos session. While enjoying a dinner in her honor at the home of her son Laurence, she was notified that she was wanted at home. Arriving there she found the following ladies: Mrs. L. B. Kicker, Mrs. Olinger, Mrs. Gene Wells, Mrs. Chapman, Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Edith Edwards, Mrs. Eva Clark, Mrs. Bailey, Miss McGrew and Mrs. George Norton, who made the cake.
