Friends of Mrs. Ace Wagner will
be pleased to learn that she is home
again, after spending seven weeks in
a Walla Walla hospital.
Walter Adams has commenced
lambing on the Hod gen range west
of Gardena. The mild winter has re
quired little feeding in addition to
range pasture.
The Weston community folk will
give St. Valentine dance tonight at
Memorial hall in that city. Fletcher's
orchestra has been engaged to fur
nish the music.
Mrs. Zeltha Mclntyre returned
from Walla Walla Tuesday evening,
where she spent Tuesday visiting at
the home of her daughter, Mrs.
Ralph Cannon.
Joseph Payne is nursing a lacerat
ed thumb which came in contact with
his wood saw. Joe yanked the digit
away from the saw in time to save it
from the woodpile.
Mrs. Minnie DePeatt arrived home
Monday evening from Portland where
she spent a couple of months visit
ing her daughter, Mrs. Ortis Harris.
Mr. Harris is pastor of the Laurel
hurst Christian church.
Mrs. W. H. Reeder left for her
home in Tacoma, Monday, after a
pleasant visit of two months at the
home of her son, Otha Reeder in
Athena. Mrs. Reeder's many friends
will miss her cherry presence.
Mrs. Dave Stone, Miss Laura
Woodward and Till Stone, were here
from Walla Walla, Wednesday eve
ning, appearing on the piano recital
program of the Athena class of the
Malen Burnett School of Music.
Wauna group of Campflre girls met
at the home of Marjorie Douglas,
Monday evening. The members are
making clever "dancettes" and the
evening was spent with this work.

Mrs. Dora Geissel is in Portland,
visiting at the homes of her daugh
ters Mrs. Jay, Mrs. Dawson, and her
son, Fred Geissel.
Mrs. George Gerking who has been
seriously ill at her home west of
Athena for the past five weeks is
slightly improved.
Mrs. M. L. Watts, Mrs. Glenn Dud
ley and Mrs. Ralph McEwen played
contract at the home of Mrs. H. I.
Watts, Saturday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Rogers are
receiving congratulations upon the
birth of a son at a Walla Walla hos
pital, Tuesday, February 10. .
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Shick and son
Loraine of Walla Walla, came over
Sunday and spent the day at the
home of Mrs. Sarah Jane Harden.
Mrs. Savannah Knox, daughter
Coral and Miss Beatrice Campbell are
here from Hood River visiting at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Smith.
The Athena "Dudes," local town
basketball team motored to Milton
to play the K. of P. team, Monday
evening. The local team lost by the
score of 23 to 18.
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Dudley were
in Pendleton Wednesday evening
where they were hosts with Mr. and
Mrs. Glenn Stater for their supper
club. Contract was played following
dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Tilley of Walla Wal
la directing the Walla Walla high
school band and a quintet from the
glee club gave an hours musical pro
gram at the local high school Fri
day afternoon.
Mrs. E. J. Burchill of Pendleton is
a guest at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. C. M. Eager, Mrs. Burchill came
to Athena to attend the Hanna re
cital, as both her grand daughters ap
peared on the program.
Another pleasant evening was spent
by members of the B. B. club last
Thursday when Mr. and Mrs. Flint
Johns were hosts at their home west
of Athena. As usual bridge followed
dinner and Mrs. Laurence Pinkerton
made high score and Fred Kershaw
received a guest prize.
Mrs. M. L. Watts, Mrs. H. I. Watts
and Mrs. Ralph McEwen motored to
Walla Walla yesterday where they
were guests at a dramatic musical
tea at the Walla Walla country club.
Mrs. W. S. Kern and Mrs. F. C. Rob
inson were the hostesses.
Members of the local Circle of the
Women of Woodcraft are invited to
dinner at 6:30 at Weston Saturday,
February 14. The occasion is in
honor of Mrs. Minnie Hiner, Grand
Guardian, of Portland. Installation
will take place at 8 o'clock.
Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Pinkerton were
in Milton Wednesday. Mrs. Pinker
ton called on Milton people in behalf
of the local Christian Missionary
society to procure quilts which will
be exhibited at their forthcoming tea
Wednesday afternoon, March 4.
Mrs. Tom Kirk and little son Billy
of Creston, B. C. are visiting at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pittman,
having arrived Wednesday night.
They accompanied Will Piper of He
lix who had been in their neighbor
hood looking over his holdings there.
The Jolly Twenty club was pleas-J
antly entertained at the home of
Mrs. Jess Gordon last Friday after
noon. Eight members were present
and at the tea hour the hostess was
assisted by Mrs. Ross Payne. The
next meeting will be February 20 at
the home of Mrs. Ravella Lieuallen.
Dean Pinkerton, Leonard Geissel
and Wayne Pinkerton are enjoying
revolver practice. They became so
proficient in their marksmanship with
the "22" rifle that running jack rab
bits were bowled over with monot
onous consistency. Hence, their
change to automatic "22" revolvers.
Pussy willows and red berries sug
gestive of spring were the decora
tions used by Mrs. F. S. LeGrow last
Friday when she entertained the
bridge club at her home on High
street Preceding bridge, which was
the diversion of the afternoon, the
hostess served luncheon. The guests
were Mrs. S. J. Bowles of Walla Wal
la, Mrs. Justin Harwood and Mrs.
Claire Gurney, Mrs. Henry Barrett
made high score and Mrs. Lloyd
Michener second. Mrs. Harwood re
ceived a dainty guest priie.

Mrs. C. E. O. Montague and Mrs.
Ethel Montague entertained the Pin
ochle club at the home of the latter,
Thursday evening of last week, when
twenty-eight guests were entertained
at dinner. Six tables at cards in play
followed dinner. High scores were
made by Mrs. W. E. Campbell and
Howard Remillard, low scores going
to Mrs. Phillip Remillard and Jesse
Smith. As a diversion of the eve
ning, the guests enjoyed music, fur
nished by Mrs. Ethel Montague, her
father, Al Johnson and brother El
mer Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Catron were club guests. - The club
will be entertained next at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. George Brace at
Thorn Hollow. .
BAPTIST CHURCH
The Baptist church has invited
Capt. G. L. Hall to conduct the ser
vices at that church this month. Mr.
Hall is a colporter-evangelist and
works in various parts of the state.
He was with the church at all the
services last Sunday. You are cor
dially invited to worship at the Bap
tist church this coming Sunday. Sun
day school meets at 10 a. m. follow
ed by worship service conducted by
Mr. Hall. The Young Peoples ser
vice will be held at 6:30 p. m. and
the evening service follows at 7:30.
We believe that if people desire to
honor and worship God at all in their
hearts they will be coming to ser
vices conducted for that purpose.
The young people of Athena are in
vited to attend the service conducted
by the B. Y. P. U. in the local Bap
tist church Sunday evening at 6:30.
Good crowds are present every Sun
day, and interesting programs are
being given. Why not attend these
young people's meetings conducted
by your friends and classmates?
