Ira Snook, insurance representative of Pendleton made business calls here Tuesday. Etude club will meet at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Michener next Tuesday afternoon. S. W. Hankman of Almota, Wash., was registered at the Athena Hotel, Tuesday night. John Thompson well known Uma tilla river stock man paid a visit -to Athena yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Singer and sons were Thanksgiving day guests of rela tives in Waitsburg. Norman Mclntyre came home from Oregon State college to spend the Thanksgiving holidays. R. Crommelin of Pendleton and E, Fave of Spokane were business vis itors here yesterday. Miss Elizabeth Holwager of Walla Walla visited at the home of Mrs. B. B. Richards Saturday. Jesse Smith spent a portion of the week butchering porkers at the Roy Cannon farm, north of Athena. Mrs. Dorothy Dixon of LaCross, Washington, is visiting at the home of her mother, Mrs. Dora GeisseL M. L. Watts has returned from Portland where he attended the funer al of his nephew, L. M. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Shick were over from Walla Walla, Sunday, visiting at the home of Mrs. Jane Harden. Mrs. W. H. Reeder is in Athena from her home at Tacoma, visiting her son, Otho Reeder and family. . Misses Dora and Dorothy Thorne came up from Pendleton Sunday and visited at the George Green home: Dean Dudley who suffered a broken cheek bone in a recent accident is im proving at his home west of town. :. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Jones and son Donald spent last Thursday and Fri day with relatives in Walla Walla. , Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boylen of Pudt Rock were recent dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Dudley. , Mr. and Mrs. Herb Hale have mov ed from the farm to Helix, where the children will go to school this win ter. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pittman enter tained Mr. and Mrs. Fred . ; Pittman and George Pittman at dinner Sun day. Mrs. Lilla Kirk of Walla Walla and Mrs. Proebstel of Weston were vis itors here Tuesday, en route to Pen dleton. Mrs. Rose Miller returned to Free water Sunday evening, having spent Thanksgiving with her mother, Mrs. Geissel. G. O. Richardson of Adams, de livered an address on prohibition Sun day morning at the Baptist church in this city. Granville Johnson, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Johnson, is im proving after being seriously ill with pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Frazier and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Pinkerton were at the Floyd ' Pinkerton home for Thanksgiving Mr. and Mrs. Chase Garfield and daughters Gloria and June spent the week-end at Boise, Idaho, making the trip by motor. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Keen entertained Mr. and Mrs. Glen Steen of Milton, and Mrs. Stella Keen at dinner, Thanksgiving day. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ames came up from Pendleton, Sunday, and spent the day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Cresswell. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schroeder will spend several weeks in Spokane, hop ing that the change will benefit Mr. Schroeder's health. : Mrs. M. M. Johns entered the sanitarium at College Place the fore part of the week, where she is taking medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hawes of La Grande spent the week-end at the home of Mrs. Hawes' parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Green. Mrs, J. J. Joyce and little daughter Marilyn of Skikomish, Washington, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Prestbye. Mrs. Sam Booher and daughter, Marjorie were over from Walla Wal la, visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Zerba. Oliver Dickenson who formerly re sided near Athena was a visitor here Tuesday. JMr. Dickenson now makes his home at Freewater. Mrs. Eva Reynolds has purchased the Bruce property in the nocth-east part of Athena. It was formerly owned by Donald McFadyen. Robert Mitchell came up from Port land and spent a few days with his mother Mrs. Minnie Mitchell at the Fred Gross home, west of Athena. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Zerba had as guests Wednesday evening, at a ta male feed, Mr. and Mrs. Granville Cannon and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Will iams. Miss Mary Hartle, stenographer in the office of . the Preston-Shaffer Milling company, has returned from her vacation trip to . Eugene and other points in the Willamette val ley. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Copenhaver and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Swift of Heppner and Mr. and Mrs. Harve Roseberry were week-end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Swift. Watkins" Pharmacy has been dolled up with decorations which are artis tically arranged. Crepe paper stream ers of orange and green afford a pleasing effect ceihngward. Miss Delia Bryant has been ser iously ill with influenza and is still confined to her home. Mrs. M. I, Miller is teaching the first and sec ond grades in her absence. Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Taylor enter tained at dinner Thanksgiving day, Mrs. Nellie Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Del- bert Clore of Vale, and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Yenny of Walla Walla. C. T. Smith, Louis Berlin:' Kohler Betts, Clarence Tubbs and Louis Keen represented Dolph Lodge No. 80, A. F. & A. M., at a meeting of the Mas ter Warden Association in Helix, Saturday evening. Pupils of school district No. 52 have an attractive display of plastic maps and several articles resulting from manual training instruction. . The ex hibit was placed in one of the show windows of the Mosgrove building and attracted considerable notice. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Logsdon and Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Taylor attend ed a party last week at the home of Mrs. Phillip Yenny at Walla Walla, which was given in honor of Mrs. Delbert Clore of, Vale. A group of friends was entertained at the Lafave country home east of Adams Saturday night. Dancing was enjoyed by the guests, the old fashion ed square dances being a' feature. Supper was served by the hosts. , An elaborate Christmas pageant and cantata is in preparation by students of the Athena schools. Every child in school will have a part in the pro duction to be presented immediately preceding the1 Christmas holidays. Mr. and Mrs.' Charles Betts were host and hostess on Thanksgiving day to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stewart and their three little sons, Mr. John F. Herr of Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Kohler Betts and Mr. Herman Hoffman. Mrs. Sarah Jane Bowles returned to her home in Walla Walla Sunday, after spending Thanksgiving at the home of her1 daughter, Mrs, F. S, Le- Grow, M. L. 'Watts was also a guest at the LeGrow home Thanksgiving day. Word has been received here that Mrs. Ellis Brower (Jennamae Read) who has been seriously ill with - a complication of scarlet fever and pneumonia is convalescing satisfac torily at her: 'home Jn Kalispel, Mon tana. yii , Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Dawson de parted for their 'home in Portland, Friday, after spending Thanksgiving at the Geissel home, in the north part of town. Mr. and Mrs.. Dawson will reside at 400 Oswego , street, Portland. v . Dinner guests at the home of, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Dudley Tuesday eve ning were M. and Mrs. H. H. Eick- hoff and Mr. and Mrs. McConnel of Walla Walla and Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Hansell. The evening was .spent play ing bridge.' ; Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Dudley who in tended leaving for Long Beach, Cali fornia, last week, were detained at home and did not leave until Monday morning. They went by automobile and will remain in California dur ing the winter. The members of the Baptist church have sent a call to Rev. Randall, now of Cottage Grove, and it is expect ed that he and his family will arrive about the first of the year. The par sonage is being renovated in prepara tion for its new occupants. E. O. Lee, who is employed in the construction department of the Wen- atchee. Washington, dam, was visited by Mrs. Lee and family over Thanks giving. Mrs.' Lee was accompanied home by little Marjorie Stott, who will visit at the Lee home west of town. Miss Mildred Watkins returned to Chehalis, Washington, Sunday, after spending Thanksgiving here with her brother, Gordon Watkins and family. Miss Glea Sias returned to iier- miston Sunday evening, after spend ing Thanksgiving with her parents in Athena. " For the first time in six weeks, John Walker took advantage of the sunshine Tuesday forenoon and came over to town from the farm. John has been having a severe tussle with the diiigbasted rheumatism of late and then the flu came along and took a whack at him. , Mr. and Mrs. James Twohy and children Mary and Kevin returned Saturday to their home in Portland after spending Thanksgiving at the F. B. Boyd home. Dick Twohy , was a visitor here until Sunday when he returned to Spokane where he is a student at Gonzaga. The Christian church ladies are holding their annual bazaar today at the church, beginning at 2 o'clock this afternoon, and this evening, commenc ing at 5:30 dinner will be served to the public. The bazaar will afford op portunity for everybody to buy use ful articles, many of them being suit able for Christmas presents, and the dinner will be on a par with those given by the- ladies of the Chriftian church in the past. Mrs. D. A. Pinkerton entertained the Christian Missionary society Wed nesday afternoon, when seven mem bers were present The Mountain missions was the subject for the meet ing, and papers were read by Mrs. Minnie DePeatt, Mrs, D. A. Pinker ton, Mrs. Louis Keen and Mrs. J. W. Pinkerton. Mrs. W. W. McPherson became a new member of the society.
