The group of Wauna Camp Fire
girls will hold a cooked food sale at
the Quality Grocery store tomorrow
(Saturday) afternoon, beginning at
2 o'clock.
Mrs. Justin Harwood is assisting
the sales force at the Athena Depart
ment store during the absence of Mr.
F. B. Radtke, ,the proprietor, who is
in the East.
E. C. Rogers, Wm. Piper and Henry
Dell, accompanied by L. T. Rogers of
Gcnessee, Idaho, made a trip to Bon
ners Ferry and across the line into
Alberta this week.

Weston classes was greatly enjoyed
by the audience at Athena high school
auditorium, Monday evening.
Dr. Baker, a missionary worker
from India, will deliver a lecture on
Indian missions next Wednesday
evening at the Baptist church. The
public is cordially invited to hear
him.
Mrs. Thomas Huntington, who with
her two little sons, Tommy and
Bobby, visited her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. C. A. Sias here the past week,
left Tuesday morning for their home

The two little sons of Mr. and Mrs.

serious attacks of croup this week.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Sheard nave naa

Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Campbell and
Mrs. C. D. Morey, of - Freewater,

last Saturday by train for Pittsfield,
Kansas, where they will spend sever

Mrs. H. H. Hill has been removed
from General Hospital at Walla Wal
la, to the home of her son, waunce
Hill, in that city. Mrs. Hill continues
to improve and is gradually recover
ing from an attack of ptomaine
poisoning.
The Rebekahs will hold a special
meeting on Monday afternoon, De
cember 16th at 2 o'clock lor tne pur
pose of nominating officers. The

quests that all members be present
at this special meeting.

Mrs. Theresa Berlin was hostess to
the Christian Missionary society
Wednesday afternoon, when nine
members were present. The subject,
"Christian Schools," was led by Mrs.
Louis Keen. Mrs. Berlin was assist
ed in serving, refreshments by Mrs.
G. R. Gerking.

The quilt is now on display at the

A party of Buhl, Idaho, people were
recently entertained at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. loyd Pinkerton, west
of town. They were Mr. Butler
Mathews, Mrs. W. II. Holmes, Mrs.
C. Holmes and little daughter, who
were returning to their homes from
a visit to relatives in Genessee, Idaho.
Mrs. V. A, Gholson, writing to Ath
ena friends after her arrival at
Wichita Falls, Texas, says that the
trip by motor from Oregon to Texas,
was a pleasant one. Her son Forrest
and family accompanied Mrs. Ghol
son to Texas, and he has employ
ment in a Wichita Falls dry goods
store. ,
. Mr. and Mrs. ; Robert Norris, of
Medford, with their small son, were
guests this week of relatives in and
near Athena. Mrs. Norris was form
erly Hazel Sanders, and has many
friends here. Mr. Norris drove on to
Yakima and Seattle and will return
here Saturday, when they will depart
for their home.
An informal meeting of the Athena
Bridge club was enjoyed by members
Tuesday afternoon when Mrs. B. B.
Richards was hostess. Four tables
were in play. Mrs. Henry Dell mak
ing hich rluh score and Mrs. Arm and
De Merritt high guest score. Mrs.
W. S. Ferguson received the consola
tion. Mrs. Fred Kershaw will enter
tain the club Friday, December 20th.

Paloma Adkinson of Pendleton, at
Walla Walla, Saturday. Rev. Reich-
ard, pastor of the msbyterian
church of Walla Walla, officiated.
Following the wedding ceremony a
dinner was enjoyed at Marcus whit
man hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Ball will
make their home in Athena.

ter that Mrs. Hadley is in an Oak
land sanitarium, where she is being
treated for nervousness and heart
trouble. Mrs. Hadley's parents are
with the family at this time. .
Mrs. Lida McDonald, mother of
Mrs. Richard Thompson, died Mon
day night at St. Anthony's hospital
in Pendleton, at the age of 70 years.
She is survived by her husband, eight
daughters and two sons, ten grand
children and five great grand child
ren. Mrs. McDonald was a member of
the Episcopal church at Pendleton
and the funeral services were held
there yesterday afternoon at 1:30.
Twenty-one members of the O. D. O.
club spent a very pleasant afternoon
at the home of Mrs. Jesse Smith,
Friday. Among the guests was Mrs.
George Johnston, a former club mem
ber, now a resident of Moscow, Idaho.
Mrs. Johnston was the recipient of a
handkerchief shower. Other guests
were Mrs. Emma Patterson, Mrs. J.
W. Pinkerton, Mrs. C. H. Potter, Mrs.
Arthur Jenkins and Miss Lois Smith.
Mrs. Archie Mclntyre will entertain
the club on next Friday afternoon,

ter of Mrs. Jesse Gordon, was honor
guest at the Gordon farm home Sun
day,' when Mr. and Mrs. Gordon en
tertained at dinner a party of rela
