Mansfield is here from Pen dleton, purchasing horses. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McEwen were Walla Walla visitors Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Singer visited relatives in Waitsburg, Sunday. Miss Blanche Thorson has return ed after a visit at her home at Stan field. Arnold Wood has been very ill the past week and is under the care of a physician. Mr. and Mrs. Jos. N. Scott were at their farm west of Athena, Monday, from Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Frazier of Milton, pent Sunday at the J. W. Pinkerton home. Miss Blanche Johnson had for her week-end guest, Miss Harriet Atchi son of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Ferguson re turned the fore part of the week from a visit in Portland. Mrs. 0. 0. Stephens was up from her home in Pendleton, attending lodge Wednesday night. Miss Helen Hansel, returned to W. S. C, after spending the week-end with her parents in Athena. Beginning October 7 the barber shops of Athena will cloi e at 6 o'clock except Wednesday and Saturday. Roland Richards, assisted by his boy friends, has made a. new body for his pony cart, and it is neatly painted, too. Miss Beulah Smith returned Wed nesday night after a -visit of several days at her home in Ii iland City. ' Dale Stephens calletl on Athena friends Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. George Myrick and family have moved to the cottage of Mrs. Patterson, in the south part of town. Charles Williams and Miss Ruth Williams have returned from a three weeks trip to Newport and coast points. W. P. Littlejohn and daughter Mrs. Areta Gurney attended , the Harry Lauder concert in Walla Walla Wed nesday night. Miss Delia Bryant and Miss Blanche Thorson were among those motorirvg to Pendleton to hear Harry Laudar Wednesday night. Miss Hilda Dickenson, chief oper ator in the Arlington telephone ex change, spent Sunday at the home of her parents in Athena. Dr. and Mrs. Blatchford, Dr. and Mrs. Rice, and Kholer Betts were din ner guests at the home of Rev. and Mrs. H. E. Dow, Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Harmon of Klatskanie, Wash., were recent visit ors at the home of Mr. Harmon' sister, Mrs. Arthur Jenkins. Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Van Dusen who have been visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Dudley left Wed nesday for their home in Astoria. The 0. D. O. Club will meet at the home of Mrs. Jess Gordon mixt Fri day afternoon, October 11. All members are requested to ho present. O. 0. Stephens, Dale Stephens and George Ferguson came up f nom Pen dleton Saturday, and west to the Fer guson place on Weston Mo untain, to hunt. Mrs. C. A. Sias met with a painful accident Tuesday, when her left hand was caught in an electric wringer. No bones were broken, but Dr. Rice found fingers badly laceratad, which will hold the patient disabled for some time. An enjoyable social event at Adams Thursday evening of last week was the reception accorded the teachers by the Adams Parent-Teachers as sociation. The Christian Endeavor Society has resumed its meeting at the Christian church. Meetings will be held at 6:30 Sunday evenings. Rev. and Mrs. Sias are the leaders. The Christian Missionary society was entertained Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Stella Keen with Mrs. C. A. Sias program leader. The hostess served delicious refreshments. Mrs. Theresa' Berlin had as her guests Tuesday, Mrs. Fitzpatrick and daughter of Coquille. Mrs. Berlin and Mrs. Fitzpatrick were school mates. , Athena friends have been advised Miss Lenore McNair and Miss Al berta Charlton, freshmen at Univer sity of Oregon, have been pledged to Alpha Delta Pi sorority. The Adams Ladies' Community Club will hold a Hallow'een carnival on the evening of October 31. Mrs. Carl Christian is chairman of the com mittee on arrangements. Mrs. Henry Dell has returned from a pleasant visit with Mrs. Alma Kcontz in Portland. While away, the two ladies visited at Seaside and various other points of interest. . Ralph Singer and his assistants have completed reconstruction of the electric light and power system in Weston, and is now engaged in finish ing the construction work on the Athena system. Glenn Dudley, Bert Logsdon, Dean Dudley and Dr. Arthur Van Dusen of Astoria made up a hunting party treking to Oriental Creek. . Several days were spent in the mountains but few deer were in evidence. Until further notice lawn sprinkling is prohibit! on account of shutting off the gravity supply from the springs. This action is but tempor ary, but tiiers must no lawn sprinkling until notice of lifting the restriction is given. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Allen recently entertained at their farm home west vf Athpnn. Mr. and Mrs. James Jones of Portland, and Ed Thurston of Eu gene. Mr. and Mrs. Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Jones were classmates at Oregon State College. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Koepke, Sr., are at. their farm home south of Ath ena for a few weeks visit with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Koepke, Jr. They arrived from their home at Glendale, California, week before last ana maae the trip by automobile. The ladies of the Christian church and friends will serve another of their notable potluck dinners Sunday in the church dining room after the morning service, to which they invite all interested to come and bring a donation to the viands. Everybody is welcome. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Garner have arrived in the city from Eagle Valley, Baker county and have taken up residence in the Methodist Episco pal church parsonage. Mr. Garner recently purchased the shoe shop of Perry Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Hall have removed from Athena. W. C. Campbell is harvesting his prune crop this week. On account of his crop being late, Mr. Campbell is not receiving the higher prices paid for prunes earlier in the season. The Campbell prunes are of high quality, and next season a dryer may be in stalled to take care of the crop. L. A. Cornell has arrived in the city from Brogan, Malheur county and has taken charge of the garage he recently purchased from R, A. Thompson. His son, A. H. Cornell, until recently employed in the Chev rolet Garage at Walla Walla, will have charge of the mechanical de partment in the garage here. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Cornell have moved from Walla Walla to Athena, and are occupying apartments over the garage. "Divorce Made Easy" Standard Theatre Sunday night. ; Wilford Miller, who returned from a week's visit at St. Helens, has taken the position vacated by Orel McPherrin at Bryce Baker's Athena Service Station, at corner i of Main and Fourth streets, Orel will devote his attention to his delivery business and act as agent for the Oregon Trail freight truck company. Mackenzie Chapter, 0. E. S. was visited Wednesday evening at , their regular session by Mrs. Carrie Jack son, Associate Grand Matron of Baker. After a banquet served in Masonic hall, at 6:30 the distinguish ed visitor gave instruction to the of ficers of the local chapter and a most pleasant and profitable evening was passed. Weston Leader: Mrs. Susie Vaugh an, a pioneer of 1863, died Friday in Walla Walla, at the age of 77. She was a resident of Dayton, Washing ton, and the funeral was held there Sunday. Charles Pinkerton of Wes ton and Fred Pinkerton of Athena, nephews of Mrs. Vaughan were among the relatives who attended the services. Mrs. F. S. LeGrow entertained in formally at luncheon Wednesday in honor of Mrs. Ralph Roys, of Van couver, B. C, who is a guest of Mrs. Wilbur Toner of Walla Walla. Mrs. Roys before her marriage, was an instructor at Whitman college. Other guests who enjoyed Mrs. Le Grow's hospitality were Mrs. Toner, Mrs. James O'Reilly, and Mrs. Sarah Jane Bowles of Walla Walla. Miss Emily Menefee of Weston will meet dancing classes in Athena for children at 3:50 p. m. and older girls at 4:50 p. m. Thursday after noons at the home of Mrs. Bert Logs don. She will give ballet and char acter work and also popular steps. The class scheduled for Thursday, October 10, will be held on October 9 on account of Teachers Institute. Miss Menefee has completed the normal course, under Ernest Belcher at Los Angeles. She will be glad to answer inquiries. Please ', address letters to Weston, Oregon.
