Mrs. Justin Harwood is assisting
the sales department at Radtkes
this week during the absence of Mr.
Radtke who is on a fishing trip.
Mrs. William Potts has been re
moved to her home from St. An
thony's hospital, Pendleton, where
she had been a patient for some
time.

John Walker, accompanied by his

visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs,
Ralph Richmond, near Bonners Ferry
Idaho, this week.
Jim Hodgen is driving a new Ford
Hnnrt eoune. He formerly had a Ford
coach. His new car is quite spiffly
and he is sure making its bright red
wheels go 'round and round,
nr. anH Mrs. Rice and Mr. and Mrs
Lloyd Michener spent Sunday on the
Umatilla river. While the doctor
and Mr. Michener fished for trout
the ladies were at Bingham Springs
Miss Lois Johnson is home this
week from . University of Oregon,
where Rhe took the summer course
Miss Johnson will instruct in piano
for the Malen Burnett bchool oi
Music this vear.
Will Kirk finished the harvest seas
on last Friday. He had an excellent
crop of, wheat from 900 acres. Beans
on the Kirk ranch, which indicate a
good yield will be 'threshed for the
Eickhoff Products company.
Rev. and Mrs. Dow and family will
return from their summer sojourn in
the mountains, returning to the Bap
tist parsonage this week. Rev. Dow
spent Sunday in the city and
preached from his pulpit at the Bap
tist church.
The funeral of the late Chris
Breding, well known Umatilla county
farmer, was held at Pendleton, Tues
day, from the German Lutheran
church in that city. Mr. Breding is
survived by his widow, two daughters
and six sons.
Fred Gross was slightly injured at
hin farm home west of Athena the
fore part of the week, when he was
kicked on the arm by one of his
mules. Fortunately the blow was a
glancing one, otherwise iTed would
not be at work now.
Mrs. Max Wilson accompanied Mrs
Bert Logsdon home from Joseph, for
a visit over the week-end. Mrs. Logs
don will return to Joseph again this
week, where she will meet Bert, who
went to the mountains with a party
of friends on a fishing trip.
Mrs. f red Kershaw and aaugnter
Frederica, arrived home Monday eve
ning from Pavette Lake. Idaho, where
they spent a couple of weeks at the
summer home or Mr. and Mrs. uvie
Castleman, of Ontario, Oregon. They
report a very pleasant outing.
Mrs. Lillian Fredericks of Weston
visited friends in Athena Saturday
Mrs. Fredericks will begin fall in
struction to her Athena piano class,
beginning Saturday, September 7.
The Athena class will meet for in
struction at Athena Hotel parlor
Annarentlv the Press did its best
last week to transfer the residence
place of Otis Lieuallen from Adams
to La Grande. The item was intended
for announcement of the location of
Mr. and Mrs. Otis Adams formerly of
Weston at the Union county town.
Dr.' Blatchiord. Athena dentist
made a trip to Okanogan, Washing
ton over tha week-end. Ha was ac
companied home by Mrs. Blatchford.
They will live in the cottage lormer
ly occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Jmes
Cresswell, in the north part of the
city.
Mr. and Mrs. Omer Stephens and
son Dale will move to Pendleton next
uiooli. Thev will live at the home of
Mrs. A. A. Kimball, Mrs. Stephens1
mother. Mr. and Mrs. Stephens have

twelve years, where Mr. Stephens has
been engaged m the grocery busi
ness.
Mr. anH Mm. Forest Zerha left
last Friday for Grants Pass, where
they will spend a couple or weeks at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Stockstill, Mrs. Zerba's parents. Mr,
and Mrs. Elmer Stockstill returned
from there last Thursday evening.

drove to Crater Lake, returning home
via lSend.
E. C. Rogers and son Emery load

for Wallowa on a weeks fishing trip.

been selected .for a camping place,
and they were prepared to go to the
lake if Wallowa streams did not ap

Elmer Merritt will spend the fall
months on the Mclntyre ranch north
of Athena.
Mrs. Max Dudley and children are
down from Pullman visiting at the
E. A. Dudley home.
Charles Potter has sold sixty nead
of hogs to Alex Mclntyre, which will
be fattened in the stubble fields.

home in Athena, Tuesday.
Mrs. Gertie Wood has returned
home with her mother, who has been
in a hospital for some time, and who
is now improving in health.

ranch on Reed and Hawley Mountain

Mrs. Knicrht and daughter Dorothy
of Weiser, Idaho, were entertained at
the Berlin home Monday, lhe ladies
were en route to Yakima. Miss
Knight attended Whitman college
with Miss Dorothy Berlin.
J. E. Jones, who with Mrs. Jones
snent Sunday at McDougal Camp, re
ports that the crew of workmen have
assembled there to begin grading
work on the Weston-Elgin road, be
tween McDousral and Tollgate.

of H. A. Barrett in Athena, Wednes

holder over the line in Washington.
Miss Elsa Rinsrel will leave to
morrow for Portland, where she has
accepted a position in Grant hign

relatives in LaCrosse. Wis., and
Chicaero.
The Camn Fire Girls gave a party
in honor of their guardian. Miss
Hilda Dickenson at the home of
Esther Berlin, Thursday evening of
last week. Miss Dickenson, who is
leaving for Arlington, was presented
with a handsome writing portfolio, in
appreciation of her devotion to ac
tivities of the local Camp Fire group.
Miss Margaret Lee will leave this
morning for Charlo, Montana, where
she will have charge of the hfth and
sixth cradea in the public schools
there. Her sister. Miss Dorothy Lee
will leave Saturday morning for Pa
louse. Washinzton. where she will
have charge of a school. Margaret
graduated from Cheney Normal
school this summer and Dorothy has
been teaching at the Sheldon Taylor
district for the past, year.
