Suddenly, out of a spring sky...

All was well on the telephone front on April 27, 1928. ,
Suddenly, out bf a spring sky, rain began to fall, and
as night came on this turned into a furious storm of
sleet, snow and wind. In 48 hours, 3700 telephone -poles
and ocamiles. of wire were down ; 39 exchanges ,
. were isolated; 11,000 telephones were silent. ' ' '
f Repair "crews were instantly sent to the scene. In
tecord time 1000 men from five states were on the job.
; Within 72 hours the. isolated exchanges and tele-
phones were back. in service. , , .' ...

A student body meeting was neld
Friday for the purpose of nominating
student body officers for next year.
Those nominated for student body
president were: John - Kirk, Arthur
Crowley, and Stafford Hansell; for
vice-president were: Virgie Moore
and Cecil Pambrun; .for secretary
treasurer: : Carl Calvert and Thelma
Schrimpf, ; Nominations for Editor of
the Annual and the rest of the' student
body officers will be held next Friday
when the . president, L, vice-precident,
and ecretary-treasureV Twill be elect
ed.

Athletics
Adams turned the tables on the
Athena baseball team Tuesday when,
with a rally in the last two" innings,
they defeated this Athena high nine.
Adams was held scoreless till the
sixth . inning when they brought : in
one run. In the meantime Athena had
pounded the Adams pitcher for six
runs. 1. In the t seventh ; and eighth
Adams tied the score by bunching
hits with erratic fielding by the Ath
ena, team.f The score remained the
same till the first of the ninth when
Athena put two runs across the rub?
ber, but . in the last of the ,; ninth
Adams : scored three runs to- sew up

this Friday, April 12, at Athena. ;
Entertainment '
The high school quartet, composed
of . Carolyn Kidder, Areta Kirk. Ed
win and Ralph McEwen, sang "The
Auctioneer" before an' assembly of
the entire ' school Tuesday , morning
in the auditorium. They sang again
at the show that was given for the
benefit of the junior class Wednes
day night. .
5th-8th Grades
The deportment contest '- 'foT" - last
month between the fifth and sixth
grades ended in a tie. The two grades
with their teacher, Mrs. Rominger,
are planning an early morning break
fast for Saturday as a celebration.
The eighth grade has 'received its
manuals for use in review, for, the
state examinations. ; ; 7 V

April 19th at Weston
The sectional track and field meet
of the schools of this district will be
held at Weston next Friday, April 19.
According to W. E. King of Helix,
sectional director, all participants will
be given a heart examination at 9 a.
m. April 19 as an added safeguard
this year. At the same hour, entries
will be. classified according to the
u'.es and regulations.
, The Weston schools will serve a
light lunch at noon for the grades,
Mr. King advises, however, that all
the competing schools bring lunch
"and make a picnic day of it."
