For a while it appeared that every body had a claim on it. Mr. Jerry St. Dennis, a prominent land ; owner, brought the dressed hog to town. Mr. St. Dennis was in debt to John Bell and Harry McBride. Seeing a chance to-"get even" with Mr. St. Dennis, they got possession of the pork and sold it to Sherman for $12. Then it was discovered that the hog was not St. Dennis' property, he hav ing previously disposed of it to Reinhold Harras of Pendleton, to whom St. Dennis should have deliver ed it. ' Finally Harras recovered his pork and Sherman reimbursed $12, and the indomitable Jerry went home as usual, with a voluptuous jag. McILea W eeder All Steel Self Dimp--Light Draft Made in 12 ft. It is fairness in all sports and games. Good sportsmanship is what a school that is a poor loser in its games needs. ; The school that can win in a game and not boast about it, or lose in a game and not criticise the other school is the school that shows good sportsmanship. The world at large loves a good loser and detests a poo? one. If a person learns to show1 good sportsmanship in school, he will carry it through life "as the twig is bent so will the tree grow," A school cannot win all games, but above all it can keep in mind the value of good sportsmanship.' -i Girls Athletics After a hard fight the" Athena six again tasted defeat on the Touchet floor Saturday, January 5, ; by the score of 28-22. . -i . The girls were not in ' the best of condition after vacation, but they put up a hard fight and kept in the lead most of the game, until the last quarter; then Touchet began running the score up. A number of substi tutions were made for Athena. The line up was as follows: Frances Cannon, : Goldie Miller, forwards: Thelma Schrimpf, Marjorie Douglas, Centers; Areta Kirk (captain), Caro lyn Kidder, guards. : . Substitutions were: Betty Eager, F.; Pearl Green, C; Loie Montgom ery, F.; Beatrice Hiteman, G.: Bertha Price, G.; Arleen Myrick, F.; Pat- ronella Walters.G. J Boys Athletics Friday night, January 11, Athena Hi boys and girls will clash with the strong Helix Hi teams. Helix nosed out Adams January 6th by one point in an over time period. Athena beat Adams by four points, so this should be one of the most closely contested games of the season. Little is known of the Helix girls as to their ability' to cage the ball, but one can expect a strong team from over that way. - ; - : : January 17th the Athena boys will invade the north to meet one of the strong Eastern Washington basket ball teams. On January 17th they will clash with the strong St. John's team, that defeated Wa-Hi in the Eastern Washington tournament last year. January 18th they will take on Cheney Hi, last year's run ner up in the Washington state tournament at Seattle. This team of boys was coached by Coach "Pike" Miller while he was teaching in the training school at Cheney. - No doubt this will be the strongest team the Athena boys will meet on the trip. The last game of the trip is not definitely settled, but no doubt it will be with either Ewan or Steptoe. Eight or nine boys will be taken on the trip, and no player will be al lowed to make the trip who is not up to good standing in his grades. Intelligent Dogs In the board: room of King's Col lege hospital, London, hangs a picture of two fox terriers bringing a collie there for treatment The Incident oc curred In 1887. and Is well authen ticated. The owner of the- dogs was Mr. Hunt, a well known bookseller. His explanation of the dogs' sagacity was that they lived so near the hospi tal they must have seen people who bad met with accidents taken there for treatment, and they used their knowledge for the benefit ! of their Mend, the collie.
