Athena Boy Scouts
; (By Scoutmaster LeRoy)
At the Court of Honor session held
at B. B. Richards office with B. B,
Richards as chairman, E. 0. Lee, C,
M. Moore, Chance Rogers, and C. L,
McFadden as members the following
badges were awarded. Carl Calvert,
journalism: Stafford Hansen, swim
ming merit badges, Lowell Jenkins
and Solista Picket were advanced to
second class scouts. ,
After the Court of Honor session
the troop committee convened for a
business session and several items
were brought up and passed by them:
Most important to the boys is the
basketball equipment that has been
ordered and will be ready for use as
soon as the hall is prepared for the
baskets, etc. . . ,
E. 0. Lee assumed responsibility
upon the suggestion of the commit
tee of seeing that covers are made
for the large American and troop
flags. Also Mr. Lee is going to lead
out in getting the hall ready for the
basketball season.
The fastest growing thing we have
in America today is the American
boy and the problem of keeping up
- with him is one that the scout pro
, gram tries to accomplish though
doesn t always succeed.
The scout parent-son banquet will
be held Friday night December 21 at
the hotel. Fifty cents per plate will
be charged as per arrangements.
No scout meeting was held this
week due to the prevailing sickness
and the absence of the scoutmaster
for the evening. ,
uur DasKetDau season will soon
start but it seems as though the flu
has set every one else back some as
well as us so we will keep trying un
til the plans are materialized and the
boys and men are getting their bas
ketball exercises. .
We are going ahead with the ban
quet though there are some of the
boys that are still sick but they will
be represented by proxy and we will
all make a little more effort to make
the re-organization . a success and
representative of the community.
Plan to be there for the evening or
the first part of it and delegate the
business to some one else after you
have brought the boy and had your
evenings meal.
There is a scout rally in Walla Wal
la Friday evening but they must have
overlooked our date here as did some
others here that have made plans to
be elsewhere for the evening.
We are glad to see the older boys
back in scouting again and are hoping
to see them take an active part in
the leadership so there can be main
tained the boy life and spirit that is
needed to make the troop properly
function as it should.
Athena has one of the best oppor
tunities for a live scout organization
for the coming year of any of the
council and from all indications we
are going to be out at the front in
scouting. ...
