Claud Sanders has been up from

is hunting elk and deer. They will
be away about ten days.
Lee Hiteman, who used his summer
follow for raising beans, has the crop
stacked ready to thresh. The ground
is prepared for seeding wheat.
Dr. Judd a physician of Long Beach,
California, acompanied Mr. and Mrs.
Woodruff here. The party came by
motor, making the trip in three days.

and son Emery Worthington were
here from Pendleton Tuesday to at
tend the funeral of Mrs. Mary Tomp
kins. Mrs. Sarah Jane Bowles who has
been suffering from a severe fall is
improving satisfactorily. She is at
the home of her daughter Mrs. F. S.

Mrs. Agnes Hutchison who with
her husband, makes her home at the

ena, underwent a minor operation in

Arthur Douglas took his big truck
to Morrow county Saturday where he
assisted his father in moving up to
Pendleton where he will reside, hav
ing leased his land holdings.
Friends are welcoming Mrs. Thomas
Lawson who is visiting at the home
of Mrs. Charles Betts. Reverend,
Lawson was paster of the Methodist
Church here about fifteen years ago.
Miss Ethel Pittman has gone to
Seattle, where she will take a course
in the Success Business College. Her

Mrs. W. A. Graham, who has been
visiting here for the past two months
left this morning for her home in
Albany, accompanying Mr. and Mrs.

School Spirit
The students of Athena high school
have been showing better school
spirit this year at the football games
than they have shown for many years.
At the Athena-Weston game Friday,
October 19, all the students who were
not on the team did their best to
encourage the boys of the team by
cheering' them on. In the past, the
students very seldom cheered the op
posing side, but this year if the op
posing team made a brilliant play,
our rooters cheered them. We hope
that this pep and good sportsman
ship will be continued and raise the
standard of not only our athletics but
all our student body activities even
higher than they are at present.

to Pendleton Sunday.

Athletics
The Athena high school football
team defeated the strong Weston
eleven 12-0 at. Athena, Friday, Octo
ber 19.
In the first quarter Weston kick
ed off to Athena. Neither team came
near to scoring a touchdown, but the
ball was mostly in Weston territory.
The Athena team tried numerous
passes but did not make any success
ful ones. Every one on the Athena
team was playing a consistant game
of ball.
When the second quarter opened,
Athena continued her aerial attack,
and after a number of successful pas
ses, conbined with off-tackle kicks
and end runs, the ball was placed over
the last chalk line. The try for point
failed. There was no more scoring
this period, although Athena once
marched far into Weston's territory.
When the second half opened, the
Athena men' were determined to fight
for the advantage that they had. Ath
ena still continued her aerial attack
and with several good runs made
another touchdown. The try for
point was blocked. Weston elected
to receive the kick-off, but they were
soon forced to kick.
In the fourth quarter the game
grew a little slower as the fast pace
which had been maintained through
out the game was beginning to tell
on the players of both sides. When
the fourth quarter was about half
over, Weston received a break when
Snider, an end.recovered a fumble and
carried the ball to Athena's 15 yeard
line before being downed. The Ath
ena line held like a stone wall, a pass
was incompleted, and Athena im
mediately took the ball out of the
dangerous territory. The latter part
of the quarter was given mostly to
punting.

Student Body .
A student body meeting was held
Wednesday, October 17, for the pur
pose of discussing the question
whether we should have a pep rally
Thursday evening. It was decided to
have the rally. The students were
to meet at the school house at 7:30
and the rally ended at 8:00.
The question was left to be voted
on at a later meeting whether the
high school should have a Hallowe'en
party.
Pep Rally
A pep rally was held Thursday
night, October 18, by the high school
student body and upper grades. The
high school students and the 7th and
8th grades, lead by our cheer leader
"Tuffy," met at the school at 7:30
and paraded to town. There the pro
cession was halted at Main street,
where a number of the football men,
the coach, and Mr. Rogers made
speeches. The students then serpen
tined through the stores; and when
their voices were about worn out, they
returned to the school house.
Entertainment
The high school held an assembly
Friday morning, October 19. Coach
"Pike" Miller spoke a few words and
a number of boys on the team also
spoke. Yell leader, Raymond Freeze,
led the high school in a few yells. A
few popular songs were chosen to.
sing during the year.
Classes
A freshman class meeting was held
on Tuesday, October 16 to determine
how the debt left from the wiener
roast at Thorn Hollow was to be met.
A candy sale at the game Friday,
October 19, was decided upon and
$3.45 was taken in.
1st and 2nd Grades
Wallace Young was. absent from
school Thursday and Friday.
The second graders are reviewing
their old readers before taking up
their general course of second grade
work.
5th and 6th Grades
The fifth andr.sixth grades are plan
ning a Hallowe'en party for Friday,
October 26. -
