McEwen leave Monday for California to spend the winter months. Ed Barrett, wife and son returned Saturday from LaGrande, where Mr. Barrett recently completed o build ing contract. "Bill" and John King left for Hermiston yesterday, where they go to look over the prospect for team work on the government project there. A valuable McElropa colt, the prop erty of Henry Barrett, died last night. The colt was an exceptionally fine one and took second prize in its class at the colt show last spring. Helix Herald: B. B. Richards, the Athena wheat buyer, came over Wednesday evening to assist in man aging the K. of P. goat, which was doing some overtime work that night. John Beaton, a Weston pioneer rancher, was in town Saturday. Time deals lightly with John, and he con tinues in the same old level way; everybody's friend and his own worst enemy. Wm. Willaby, Sr., returned last evening frbm a visit to Spokane and Newport, Wash. The old gentleman got nary a "mess" of venison while at Newport, but feasted on mountain trout a plenty.
