The rooters have the pep that they should have. At both games not only one, but all have yelled their best, That is about the best of a school's spirit that can be made yelling whether the team is winning or losing. The football field is not the only place where school spirit is carried out. In the schoolroom there is to be noticed a better cooperation be tween the students and the teachers than has existed for some time. Football Athena played Wa-Hi's second team to a 6-6 tie Friday, September 28, on the local field. Athena kicked the ball to Walla Walla, but Walla Walla was unable to make much yardage in three downs. In the fourth, Wayne Pink erton broke through the line, picked up a fumbled ball, and ran for a touchdown. Gross failed to kick over the goal. " In the second quarter Walla Walla helped partly by penalties on Ath ena, netted a touchdown. In the second half both sides were quite evenly matched and neither was able to make any more points. The score stood 6-6 when the game end ed. Coach "Pike" Miller said that the boys played a much better game than they did with Pilot Rock and that they showed they had much more confidence in themselves and under stood better the plays he had been teaching them. "Pike" says that twenty-four boys turned out Monday evening for foot ball practice. Alumni Kathleen Radtke and Jessiedeane Dudley have been pledged to the Alpha Delta Pi sororitv at' the Uni versity of Oregon. Helen Hansell has been pledged to the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at Washington State College. Lois Mclntyre returned from the University of Oreeon Mondav evenine because of illness. i Entertainment The high school and eighth crude held an assembly Friday morning, September 28. A motion was made and seconded to buy more songs and music. A fine turn out for football practice and the spirit of the first game were discussed by Superintendent Meyer and Coach Miller. A few songs were sung and a number of yells given by the school. Student Body A student body meeting was held Tuesday, September 25. The secre tary's and treasurer's report was giv en. The question was brought up whether the student body should buy any new pongs. As there was no more business, the meeting was ad journed. The student body took in $25.50 at the football game with Wa-Hi Fri day. After all expenses had been paid the net profit was $13.00. Classes The freshmen received $7.65 from their candy sale Friday at the Wa-Hi-Athena game., This money will be used for the weiner roast they will give for the student body Wednes day, October 3, at Thornhollow. " j ' Subject Classes ; t Areta Kirk and Mildred Street have received Certificates of Proficiency from the Underwood Typewriter Company for writing more than thirty words a minute for fifteen minutes. Areta Kirk's speed was thirty-two words a minute and Mil dred Street's speed was thirty-one words. They won the certificates last spring just before school closed. 3rd and 4th Grades Frances Alkier has been promoted from the first grade to the , third grade. " 5th and 6th Grades The honor roll for the fifth and six th grades for the month of September was as follows: Fifth grade, Eleanor Price; sixth grade, Arleen Foster and Aaron Douglas. . Personals Walter Huffman, Wilford Miller, Wayne Pittman and Edwin McEwen were in Walla Walla Saturday. Pearl Green was in Walla Walla Sunday. The Juniors en joyed a weiner roast at the Laurence Pinkerton ranch last week, out door games were played and they all re ported a fine time. The young people and Juniors are having a friendly con test for membership, the Juniors be ing in the lead at the present time and they say that they're going to stay in the lead, so young people, you had better look out.
