Will Resume Service Be
tween 1 Walla Walla u
and Spokane.
Aerial passenger' service c between
Spokane and Walla Walla is to be re
sumed on a tri-weekly basis by the
Spokane Airways Inc., Captain H. Jt
Taplan, president of the company, an
nounced Monday, according to the
Spokane Chronicle.,' No word of such
change has yet been received here,
hotel operators and others connected
with the aerial service stated.
. "In addition to the tri-weekly ser
vice, which will probably operate
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we
will make runs whenever there are
passengers," Captain Taplan said.
During the month of August 90 pas
sengers used the air service between
here and Spokane," he said.
"We operated every day in August
on scheduled time," said Capain
Taplan. "We could have carried 280
passengers during that time if we had
made loaded trips every day, However,
we wanted to operate on schedule for
the purpose of determining the vol
ume of business. We .have some idea
about the business now- and believe
the tri-weekly service will prove suc
cessful." Captain Taplin is negotiating for
a mail contract between Spokane and
Walla Walla.
. "We can save six hours in the mail
between Spokane and Walla Walla,"
he said.'4 N ,. .';

Salem. With virtually every foot
of space both in the buildings and on
the graunds engaged, there is every
indication that this year's state fair
will be the banner event of its kind
held in the state of Oregon. The fair
opens September 24 and ) closes
September 29. j , :
Letters received at the office of Mrs.
Ella Shultz Wilson, secretary of the
state fair board, the past week indi
cate that approximately 24 of the 36
counties in Oregon will have exhibits
in the agricultural building Some
counties have reserved larger spaces
than in previous years while others
will crowd more produce into' their
exhibit. .' "t .. '
The boys' and girls', club, work de
partment will occupy more space' at
this year's fair than ever before. H.
C. Seymour, state club leader, has
written that virtually every county
in Oregon will be represented in the
boys' and girls' club department. The
boys will major on livestock, while
the girls will specialize in sewing,
cooking, home economics, canning
and baking. The visiting boys and
girls will be housed in' the club pa
vilion, under the direction of com
petent chaperons. Canning demon
strations will be held daily. , ;
With the new barn nearing comple
tion it will be possible to take care
of more livestock at this year's fair
than ever before. In past years it
has provided other temporary shelter
for many of the belated entrants.
This proved unsatisfactory, due to.
rain and other conditions.
Races will be. held each afternoon
on both the mile and half-mile tracks.
The entrants are more numerous than
ever before and every race has been
filled. The grandstand, which accom
modates approximately 7000 persons,
is now being placed in first-class con
dition. Free attractions will be given
between the several races daily. 1
Records show that the poultry pa
vilion will be filled to capacity this
year, and it may be necessary to ar
range for temporary quarters to take
care of the overflow. The poultry
show always has attracted wide at
tention and competition , has . been
keen.
Additional attractions at this year's
fair will be a community contest on
the opening day. Liberal prizes have
been posted by the fair board, and Jt
is likely that a number of community
clubs will participate. The cash prizes
range from $15 to $35 with a grand
prize of a silver cup. A number of
communities will enter bands, while
others will present soloists and
vaudeville stunts. The airplane cir
cus, which also is an added attraction,
will continue during the entire week.
The automobile exhibit, which - in
past years has been one of the out
standing attractions of the state fair,
will be larger than ever this year.
Virtually every make of automobile
will be on exhibit. There also will
be many accessories.
The night horse show this year
promises to excel those held in the
past. Entries already announced in
clude a large number of outstanding
show animals from California, Can
ada and Washington. Aaron Frank
of Portland also will be on hand with
a dozen or more high-class animals.
There .will be other important Ore
gon entries. . ' t
The state fair grounds were never
more attractive than at present The
flower gardens have been rearranged,
additional shrubbery planted, and a
number of buildings repainted. ,.
