SILVER STRIKE EXCTES IDAHO Residents of Genesee, Idaho, Believe Rich Find Has Been Made. Lewiston. Reports received to night indicated that residents of the town of Genesee, 20 miles southeast of here, are excited over the prob able discovery of a rich strike in lead and silver. A road crew, working on improve ments in the Genesee highway dis trict after blasting away a wall of rock, discovered the ground strewn with pieces rich in lead and silver. The news reached the town and im mediately scores rushed to the scene, it is reported. Reports state that an even dozen persons are spending the night on claims they have staked out, and that these will rush to Lewiston to make their filings. The first information that the rock was rich with ore came when Perry Larkin, a boy engaged . on the work, returned to his home for dinner and showed his father, an old mining man, the rock, the re ports received here stated. Then the rush started. It is stated from reli able quarters that no less than 400 persons visited the scene this after noon. The claim discovery is just over the Nez Perce county line. Genesee is in Latah county. Milton Child Dies of Auto Injuries Wellington Edward Walker,' the 10 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed ward T. Walker of State Line, died early Saturday morning from in juries sustained the night before when he was knocked over by an automobile on the Pendleton high way. The child according to reports, had received a fractured skull and severe cuts about the head, causing it to lose a great deal of blood. It was rushed to a Walla Walla hospital where medical attention was given at once but the loss of blood and severe wounds proved 'too much. The lad was born on December 22, 1917, in . Pendleton, Oregon and had moved with- his parents to the farm near Milton about six years' ago. Bandit Relics Stored The 76 exhibits gathered by the postal department, the state of Ore gon and the Southern Pacific rail way to weave a net of circumstantial evidence about the three DeAutre mont brothers, killers' and bandits, now serving life sentences at Salem, will be shipped to Spokane, Wash., where they will be stored in the vaults of the postal department for future reference, if needed. 22 Years Ago June 15. 1906 Miss Sellers and Miss Bertha Gross came up from Pendleton Sunday and spent the day with friends. As the result of a defect in the con struction of the concrete basement in the Stahl building, the basement is flooded with water to a. depth ot two feet. Fay LeGrow was at Bingham Springs Sunday. He found the roaa impassable for teams and rode to the resort on horseback from the Thomp son place. Mrs. A. B. Stone and children will reside in Walla Walla temporarily until her husband finds a location in which to practice medicine. Dr. Stone has Portland in view as a prospective point. O. C. Beck fell down the stairs leading to the Christian, church aud itorium, Sunday, and was consider ably shaken up and bruised. He ha3 not been "worth a cent for work since," to use his expression. The unveiling ceremonies by the Woodmen of the World Sunday at the Athena cemetery was largely at tended. Athena Camp No. 171 at tended in a body and assisted the Adams camp in unveiling the monur ment erected to the memory of Frank Baker. - Miss Lulu -Tharp is visiting her friend, Miss Grace Parker, at St. Johns, Wash. Lew Reed was over from his ranch on the Umatilla river Monday. The flood let Mr. Reed off with little damage. "Bill" McBride had his line Mc- Elropa colt out in a fitting rig yes terday and the promising youngster showed up well. Hon. Will M. Peterson has accepted an invitation from the Helix Fourth of July committee to deliver the ora tion for the celebration. Work trains Dass through Athena daily with material which is being used to repair the O. R. & N. road bed east of Weston. The dirt and gravel is loaded on the train at a point near Havana station. The Oregbnian prints a picture of the members of the Masonic class of 1906, who took, the 32nd degree in Masonry at Portland during the ses sion of the Grand Lodge. Familiar faces in the picture are those of A. M. Gillis, A. B. McEwen, W. M. Thompkins of Athena, and D. G. Mc Kenzie, of Adams. A Predatory Drive The annual drive, for predatory animals and birds, sponsored by the Birch Creek Rod and Gun Club of Pilot Rock, is reported by the Pilot Rock Record to have resulted as fol lows: Totals recorded were 14,077 points as follows: 992 Columbia squirrels, 12 badgers, 934 magpies, 806 crows, 121 hawks, 662 squirrels, 6 weasels, 23 skunks, 143 owls, 43 gophers, 1403 sparrows, 6 coyotes, 68 rattlesnakes, 3 kingfishers, 215 rats, 31 porcupines, 94 jackrabbits. Student Violater Out at University of Oregon University of Oregon. On a charee of continuously violating university regulations, one student has been suspended for nine montns and will not be given any credit ior work done during the term just ended. The nenaltv was announced follow- incr recent hearing before the stu dent advisory committee. At the end of nine months, providing the student has been on good behavior, he will be given an honorable dis missal from the university, so tnat he may continue his work in some other institution.
