Dr. Geyer leaves today for Tacoma, to spend the week-end with his father. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lieuallen are driving a new Chrysler sedan. Mrs. Floyd Pinkerton has been quite ill at her home this week. A new sign decorates Steve's at corner of Fourth and Main streets. Miss Virginia Eager has been visit ing relatives at Dayton, Washington. Charlie Gates came over from Walla Walla and spent Memorial Day in Athena. Jens Jensen and Herbert Parker had poor luck fishing in Meacham creek Sunday. Rex Ilaynie of Bend, a former Ath ena boy is visiting friends in Athena this week. Miss Mary Berlin of Walla Walla is spending the week with Miss Ruth Williams. Fred Pittman fished in the Uma tilla Sunday, and brought home a fine lot of trout. Mrs. A. L. McEwen and sons Bpent the week-end in Walla Walla visit ing relatives. Mrs. Armond DeMerritt and son of Walla Walla spent Sunday and Mon day in Athena. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kilgore, who reside near Pendleton, were in Ath ena, Wednesday. A number of Athena people visited Walla Walla Saturday, and witness ed the air derby. Miss Lela Schubert of Milton spent Sunday visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Amiel Schubert. Mrs. Ethel McLaughlin of Duncan, spent Sunday in Athena visiting her brother, James Hodgen. Mrs. Claude Dickenson has - ar rived home from a visit to relatives and friends in Portland. Miss Bertha Schumerick of Colo rado Springs is a visitor at the Till Beckner home south of town. Mr. and Mrs. James Huggins and Mr. and Mrs. Riley Burden have gone to Prineville on an outing trip. Mrs. Bessie Beckham arrived in Athena Tuesday after several months spent in Portland with her sister. Mrs. R. A. Thompson will leave early next week for Cottage Grove, where she will visit her mother and friends. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Prestbye and Mrs. C. L. McFadden motored to Port land for the week-end, in the Prest bye car. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Zerba and daughter of Waitsburg were visitors at the Hargett home east of town Wednesday. Mrs. Helen Purvis of Summer, Washington, has been a visitor this week with her daughter Mrs. H. W. LeRoy and family. Mrs. Kitty Ray of Portland was a visitor at the M. L. Watts home last week, enroute to Montana where she will visit her son. Mrs. Frank DeFreece returned home from Walla Walla Sunday where she attended her son Roy who is in a hospital in that city. Mrs. Edward E. Koontz motored up from Portland to be in Athena Mem orial Day. Mrs. Koontz is a guest at the Henry Dell home. Morris Johns, Bobby Zerba and Dona Jean Logsdon were guests at a birthday party in Pendleton, Satur day afternoon in honor of Patty Cun ningham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cunningham. Ralph Haynie of Burns, drove up from Portland Monday, accompanied by his wife, little daughter and Mrs. Hugh McArthur. Mr. Haynie return ed to Burns Wednesday, Mrs. Haynie and daughter remaining to continue their visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Bannister. Mrs. Orel McPherrin and Miss Ann French spent the week-end at Hepp ner, visiting their father who is seriously ill, returning Monday eve ning. Clarence Barney machinery as sembler for Rogers & Goodman,' has moved over from combined harvesters to setting up binders, mowers and rakes. The condition of Roy DeFreece has improved to the extent that it is possible to remove him from the hos pital to his home in Athena, possibly today. . " Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Douglas,! son and daughter, moved this week from their town residence to their farm home, west of Athena to remain for the summer. Mrs. T. P. DeFreece and daughter Myrtle were guests at the Sims Dick' enson home Wednesday. They report Mr. DeFreece ill at his home near Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. 0. E. Venable and daughters will leave the first of the week by motor for a visit with rela tives and friends at Portland and other points. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Eager and daughters and Roland Wilson spent Sunday in Walla Walla, picmcmg with relatives and fnends of Dayton, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Eager and daughters Betty and Virginia and Genevieve Barrett in company with the Charles Bond family spent Wednesday in Walla Walla. The marriage of Sidney S. Murphy and Miss Olive Mitchell was a recent event in Portland, where the young couple will reside. The groom 13 nephew of Mrs. F. B. Boyd. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reid of Watson ville, California, were in Athena for Memorial Day. Mrs. Reid was form erly Jocelyn Koontz, daughter of pioneer Methodist minister. R. A. Duf field returned Friday from a trip to Portland, Astoria and Sea side. Mrs. Duffield and son Curtis remained at Astoria, where they will spend a month with relatives. Mrs. M. I. Miller and sons, Mrs, Thelma Cox and babe, left Sunday morning for Endicott. Mrs. Cox will remain at her home while Mrs. Miller will return in about ten days. The June meeting of the Christian Missionary society will be held on Wednesday, June 13, at the home of Mrs. J. W. Pinkerton, being post poned from Wednesday the 6th. Mrs. Bryce Baker and Mrs. Wm Harden returned form Portland, Rose- burg and other valley points, Sun day. The two ladies attended grand lodge of Rebekahs at Roseburg., Mrs. J. C. Templeton left Tues day for her home in Seattle, after a visit of two week's with friends in Athena and Walla Walla. While here she was a guest of Mrs. Retta Potts. Mrs. Frank Kaiser of Waitsburg visited Tuesday and Wednesday at the D. A. Pinkerton home. Mrs. Kaiser will be remembered to Athena friends as Mrs. Charles Brotherton. Mrs. Orin McPheron is here from Portland to attend her mother, who is confined to her home as the re sult of a recent fall .Mrs. Crabill sustained serious injury to her foot and limb. T. M. and 0. H. Kibbey who visited a week with their brother A. H. Kib bey and family, left yesterday for Condon, where they will spend a few ddys before returning to their home in Portland. Athena's boy population has mi grated to the country. The lads find employment on the farms, where their services are required in the fields pulling weeds, and other light tasks of ranch work. Bob Cutler came down from the mountain wood camp Monday with a truck load of red fir wood. Bob and Charlie Payne have cut considerable wood at the camp and are now putting it on the market. The entire Sunday school of the Christian church will picnic at the Walla Walla park next Wednesday, when one division of the school will entertain another, which was victor a recent contest. Louie Ritigel and daughter. Miss Emma, will leave this week for Chehslis, Washington, where they will visit relatives. Next week they will be at Corvallis, to attend the gradua tion of Miss Elsa Ringel at 0. A. C. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Russell and Mrs. Allen Bell left Wednesday for a couple oT week's outing at East lake, near Bend. Miss Thena Russell, dur ing the absence of the family from home, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Al NorPenn, at Spokane. Several Athena ladies attended the cookie.g class held by Mrs. Wright in Walla Walla last Friday evening, among them were Mrs. F. L. Zerba, Mrs. A. W. Logsdou, Mrs. A. W.
