Classes
The junior class held a class meet
ing Tuesday April 17, and decided to
sell candy at the play held Friday
night.
The mothers of the junior class
met at the school house Thursday,
April 19, to plan the menu for the
junior-senior banquet.
Saturday morning, April 28, begin
ning at ten o'clock, at Steve's Pure
Food Grocery, the senior class will
hold a cooked food sale. The money
from the sale will go toward the
class gift fund.
Holly Trees Given
As Memorial for
Late Dr. Campbell
UNIVERSITY OF OREGON, Eu
gene. One hundred holly trees, three
years old, have been presented to the
University to form a memorial hedge
to the late President Prince L. Camp-
hell. The donor of the gift Is John
Stump, a prominent citizen of Mon
mouth and a boyhood friend of the
late president.
Many gifts have been made in mem
ory of. the beloved late president, but
none carries more memories than does
this gift of Mr. Stump. John Stump
was Mr. Campbell's half uncle, but
tliey were of practically the same age.
From tho age of seven, Prince Camp
bell, the boy, chummed with John
around their Monmouth homes, and
Prince L. Campbell, the man, continued
to chum with him.

been sent to the printers in Walla
Walla and the proofs have been read
and corrected by the annual advisor
and returned. The annuals may be
finished next week. They will
sold for fifty cents apiece.

A student body meeting was held
Friday morning, April 13, at nine
o'clock to elect student body officers
for the coming year. Those running
for office and votes cast for each
were as follows: President: Eldon

At the student body meeting it
was voted to hold the annual trip to
Bingham Springs Saturday, May 5.
All of the alumni are invited to go,
providing they furnish their own
transportation.

a revolver, a knife and a cigarette
fiend's outfit in a car, while sweep

Hon. T. J. Kirk is circulating a
subscription paper in Athena today
for the relief of the stricken people of
San Francisco. Citizens are respond
ing nobly and the amount Athena will
give will be in proportion to the lib
eral donations of other towns of the
northwest.
The Yellow Kids play the Walla
Walla "Boosters" on the Athena
grounds Saturday afternoon. Sunday
big excursion train with two en
gines and ten coaches will come over
from Walla Walla and take the two
teams and their admirers to Pendle
ton where a game will be played in
that city in the afternoon. The
round trip from Athena will be 55
cents.

Tuesday morning Hon. T. J. Kirk
began the circulation of a subscrip
tion paper for the relief of the San
Francisco; earthquake suffers.
Yesterday he was assisted by David
Taylor, and when their labors were
ended the sum of $450 had been
subscribed. The amount was expend
ed for a carload of provisions which
was shipped oufcover the O. R. & N.
yesterday noon. In the car was 107
barrels of flour, 100 sacks of potatoes
and $50 worth of breakfast foods. On
the side of this car were long canvas
streamers, on which was painted the
destination.
-W. R. Taylor has made a trade
with a Heppner man for 100 head of
cattle. He exchanged his band of
range horses on the John Day ranch
for cattle and left Wednesday for
Heppner' after the stock. The ad
dition of this number gives Mr.
Taylor quite a nice little herd of cattle.
