Lawrence Pinkerton and I. L. Michener spent Monday near Hermis ton. Dr. Sharp reports Mrs. Ross Payne seriously ill at her home west of Athena. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Banister Friday November 25th, a daughter. County School Superintendent Yea ger was in Athena Tuesday from Pendleton. Lyle Gray of Milton spent the past week at the Lawrence Pinkerton farm home. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Catron were din ner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. 0. E. Venable. Jack Cunningham, frigidaire sales man, was in Athena Friday last, from Pendleton. , ( Miss Edna DeFreece spent the week end in Pendleton the guest of Mrs. Ellis Brower. Miss Zola Keen spent Thanksgiv ing and the week end visiting friends in Asotin, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Martin and children spent Sunday in Fruitvale, visiting at the Metsker home. Mrs. Belle Edwards arrived from Forest Grove to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Thompson. Mrs. Lee Whitehead and little sons came up from Pendleton and spent Saturday visiting friends in Athena. The W. C. T. U. met at the home of Mrs. Zeltha Mclntyre Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. H. H. Hill acting as leader. Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Parris spent Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Parris at their new home near Walla Walla. Lee Banister, Clifford Wood, Leon ard Geissel and Brooks Anderson who spent several days in Portland, came home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Pinkerton, Garth and Joyce spent the holidays with Mrs. Pinkerton's parents at Genesee, Idaho. Mrs. R. A. Thompson had her cous in, Mrs. Janie Franklin of Sheridan and Mrs. Berry, a friend, as guests during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yenney and son John of Walla Walla, were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Penn Harris Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Otho Reeder and sons and Mr. and Mrs. Gholson were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sheld on Taylor Thanksgiving Mrs. Ed Potts was operated on Monday at St. Mary's hospital in Walla Walla and is getting along a well as could be expected. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Pettyjohn of Great Falls, Montana made a short visit at the C. M. Eager home Tues day en route to California. John Tompkins and Frank Sand ers returned last Sunday from Baker where they attended the Masonic convention held in that city. Mr. and Mrs. William Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Toole spent the week end in Portland ar riving home Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. William Read arrived home Monday from Condon, Oregon, after spending the holiday week with Mr. Read's sister in that city. , Mr. and Mrs. E Eager of Dayton, are visiting at the home of C. M ' Eager. Mrs. E., Eager is con vales ting after a surgical operation. "Naughty But Nice" Standard Theatre, Sunday night. Emma Ringel and Areta Kirk at tended the three-act comedy, "Tam ed" at Weston, Friday. Mrs. Matilda Gray has" spent the past week with her brother Edgar Adair in the absence of Mrs. Adair who spent the week end in Idaho. Mrs. Dora Geissel, Miss Ethel Geis sel and Edgar Schultz of Rosebud, Alberta, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Geissel, Sunday. Donald and Dorothy Pinkercon of Portland spent the week end in Athe na at the home of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pinkerton. Dr. W. G. Cowan and mother have again moved into the Gordon proper ty on Adams street. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon having moved to their farit Mrs. Paul Lieuallen and Mrs. Fred Pinkerton called on Mrs. Fred Beck ner who is. a patient ' at the St An hony's hospital in Pendletpn, Monday. Scotty Kretzer was in Athena over the week end in interests of the U. of 0. Glee club, for which he is ad vance agent. He went as far as Bak er. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Flint Johns Saturday November 26 a daughter, at the home of Mrs. M. M. Johns. Mother and daughter are doing nice ly. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lieuallen were surprised Monday evening when a party of twenty-five young people gave them an old fashioned chari vari. . . ' ' Miss Betty Eager was a guest of Miss Dorothy Burke at the Michener home Thanksgiving ,day, while Vir ginia was a dinner guest of Ethel Adair. Mrs. William McPherson accom panied by Mrs. Ralph Singer, Mrs. Mae Walker .and daughter Lola, spent Saturday afternoon at the John Walker home. The Misses Dorothy and Margaret Lee came down from Cheney, Wash ington, where they are attending normal school, and spent Thanksgiv ing with their parents. Mr. and Mrs. Sims Dickenson and Miss Hilda Dickenson and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cockburn of Milton spent Thankssriving at the T. P. DeFreece home in Walla Walla. The Baptist Sunday school cabinet met at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Bollinger Monday evening, with a eoodlv number of Sunday school workers in attendance. " Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Norwood Forrest, som of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Foresrt of Thorn Hollow and former residents of Athena is critically ill with typhoid fever at the Pendleton hospital. Ralph Gillis came down from his home near Washtucna, Washington, yesterday, and attended the Frank Curl sale, with the view 'to purchas ing some work mules. Miss Ellen Henry spent Thanks giving and the week end with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Henry west of town. Miss Henry is a teach er in the Boardman schools. Mr. and Mrs. Parks of Palouse City, spent a couple of days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Booh er. They are en ronte to Lexington. Mrs. Parks is a mere of Mr. Booher. Mr. and Mrs. Chavles Betts and son Kohler and Rev. and Mrs. Bollinger were dinner guest of Mr. nnd Mrs. George Banister M-onday. The occas ion was in honor of Mr. Betts' birth day. Herr returned home ' from Portland Monday evening after a time spent with , Mrs. Herr who is convalescing after a major operation. Mrs. , Herr is ' slowly gaining in health. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Kirk and Oral Michener look Harold Kirk to Port land Sunday. ' Harold is attending Hill's Military academy. Mr. and Mr.. Kirk and Oral returned to Athena, Tuesday. " . Mr. and Mrs. Lee Johnson were hotel keepers in the absence of Mrs. Froome who spent the week end with her daughter Mrs. Kathryn Cooley in Portland. Mrs. Froome returned home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. R. N. McClure of Al bion, Washington, are visiting re latives at Pendleton. Before return ing to their home they visited at the home of Mrs. McClure's son, Joe Clemons. in Athena. The dinner and bazaar to be given on Saturday, December 10 by the Ladies Aid of the Christian church should be kept in mind by those who enjoy a good dinner, and are looking for Christian presents. Athena hunters find geese and ducks flying high in the Hermiston district, where they have been hunt ing since the season opened. Birds are reported to be plentiful, in fact more numerous than in former years. Mrs. Ella Martin who has spent the past several months at the home of her son and family in Athena will leave Sunday , for Tacoma, Seattle and other coast cities where she will visit with her son and daughter After spending several weeks vis iting at the E. A. Bennett home in Athena. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Black ard, have1 returned to their home at Longview. Mr. Blackard assisted Mr Bennett in painting while he was here. Ahena high school athletes are practicing for the basket ball season, which will begin soon. Sufficient material is reporting for practice to make up three teams, and Coach Toole1 hopes to select a winning auintet from the lot. Mrs. Jennie Barrett accompanied Elmer Merritt to Portland Wednes day. Mrs. Barrett will remain for the winter with her daughter Areta, at Portland. Before returning to Athena. Mr. Merritt will be fitted with an artificial limb. Radtke, Miss Kathleen Radtke and Miss Dorothy Geissel who spent the Thanksgiving vacation in Portland with relatives returned to Athena, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Radtke also went to Eu gene where they visited their son, Fred, who is attending U. of 0. Mr. . and Mrs. E. A. Dudley are leaving for California this week, where they will spend the winter months. Last week Mr. Dudley had a birthday anniversary, and in hon or of the occasion. Mrs. Dean Dud lev served a splendid birthday din ner, having as guests Mr. snd Mrs. E. A. Dudley and Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Boyd. The 0. D. 0. club met on Novem ber 38 at the home of Mrs. II. M. SauU'berry with twelve members in attendance. Mrs. A. M. Johnson was a guest of the club for the afternoon. A business session was followed by a neriod of needlework and conversa tion after which the hostess, assisted by Mrs. L.M. Keen, served refresh ments. The next meeting will be held on December ,2 at the home of Mrs. Ethel Montague. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Singer were host and hostess to a party of sev enteen relatives Thanksgiving Day, when a bounteous dinner was served. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Singer, Mr. and Mrs. J. Stor.cipher and son and daughter Jimmy and Roberta, Mrs. Mae Walker and daughter Lola, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Singer and daughter Evelyn of Waitsburg, Washington. Kirk and son, Harold, Sunday morning. Weldon Bell is in the St. Mary's hospital at Walla Walla recovering from an operation for appendicitis. He was operated on Friday evening and is getting along nicely. Frances Cannon spent Sunday in Walla Walla with her parents. Clifford Wood, accompanied oy nis parents, and Lee Banister and Mrs Jesse Myrick spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Portland. ' Alberta Charlton spent Saturday in Walla Walla.
