Press Paragraphs W. S. Ferguson spent Tuesday in Walla Walla. E. A. Dudley made a business trip to Colfax, Saturday. Henry Koepke Jr., has been spend ing the week in Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Barnes of Wet ten, were in Athena Wednesday. A. Schwandt of Weston was a business visitor here Wednesday. Funeral services of the late Wil liam Lloyd were held Monday at Mil ton. Lou McN'air is again behind the counter at the Athena Department Store. R. B. McEwen and C. M. Eager spent Saturday evening in Walla Walla. Fred Falconer, prominent shep man of Pendleton was a visitor hen Wednesday. Mrs. Richard Thompson and Mrs. A. L. McEwen spent Wednesday in Walla Walla. Mrs. B. B. Richards and Mrs. 0. 0. Stephens spent Wednesday in Walla Walla. John Weidert of Walla Walla and a large land owner near Athena, was here Monday. Avery and Clark Wood of Weston called on business friends in Athena Monday. Mr. and Mrs. James Creswcll of Athena, spent the week end in Con don, visiting friends. Mrs. Eliza Burchill is a visitor this week at the home of her daugh ter Mrs. C. M. Eager. I Miss Helen Hodgen is visiting at I the home of her sister, Mrs. Martin i McLaughlin, at Duncan. ! The condition of Mrs. Dora Lock- wood, who has been ill for sometime is considered very serious. Clem Duncan, formerly of Athena who is now farming near Walla Wal la, was a visitor here Saturday. The condition of Mrs. M. M. Johns who recently underwent a sciious operation is reported to be much im proved. Louis Bergevin Jr., formerly of Athena, and now engaged in farm ing near lone, Oregon, was a visitor here this week. Word has been received by friends of Mrs. Ralph Haynie, who resides at Bend, to the effect that she is critic ally ill with pneumonia in a hospital j ures to date, including "The I V.ir Horsemen," "The Covered Wagon," and others in the order that made it possible to book for showing here. The American Legion Post will be gin a series cf dances for the winter, at Legion Hall, tomorrow night. Music will be furnished by the Jolly Joy Maker's Ortfiestra. Jt is not necessary for Athena people to have invitations to these dances they are always welcome. Miss Pauline Myrick, who makes her home in Walla Walla, was a week end guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Myrick. Mrs. George Finch is confined to her home as the result of a broken rib, caused by falling against a washing machine, one day last week. Phillips is directing re hearsals for a pageant to be given at the Christian church on the evening of December 19. The program will be announced in next week's Press. The Methodist Missionary society will meet next Wednesday afternoon Derember 15 at the home of Mrs. W. T. McLecd. Mrs. Victor Hirsch will be the leader and Mrs. McLeod will serve refreshments. Mrs. E. C. Prestbye resumed her place at the switch-board in the local telephone exchange last Wednesday, after an absence of a month's visit in Seattle, where she visited at the home of her father. Railroad companies operating through Oregon, Washington and Idaho have announced faie and a half round trip rates for the holidays December 17, 18-22 and 24, return ing not later than January !. Miss Jennamae Read, who has been critically ill in St. Mary's hos pital in Walla Walla, has so far re covered as to be brought heme yes terday. She is attended by her nurse, Miss Ruth Bodine, who is a relative of the family. Mrs. W. P. Littlejohn was called to Pendleton Tuesday to attend the bedside of her mother, Mrs. Henry I Molstrum, who was stricken for the ! second time with paralysis. Mrs. i Molstrum is advanced in age and ap- prehension is had for her recovery, j Mrs. Ralph Cannon gave a party j Tuesday afternoon for her little daughter Mildred, commemorating her fourth birthday. Meldrum gave an inter esting talk to the high school, Mon day at 1:00 P. M. We had him with us again, yesterday at general as sembly, when he gave us a talk on his travels. Mr. and Mrs. Miller and Miss Sel lars spent Saturday in Pendleton where they shopped and visited. Velton Read who is attending Whitman college witnessed the high school play Friday evening. Coach Stolzheise has prepared an extra backboard and basket for bask et ball practice. The high school play given last Friday brought in $121.25. This money, after the expenses are paid, is to be divided amcng the four classes. The Junior gills sold candy at the play and received $10.75. The grade pupils have started their practice for the Christinas prog-ram. Miss Huffman visited in the pri mary room recently. The Etude club contributed $30.00 toward painting the stage scenery. Therm Russell was in Walla Walla Tuesday afternoon. Lois Johnson, Lcrena and Doris Schubert were in Walla Walla Sat urday. The pronosad foot ball gama be tween McLaughlin high schjol and Medford high school for the state championship was net allowed by the state athletic association. It was thought that McLaughlin did not have a clear title to the eastern Ore gon championship as a game with West Linn had been refused.. The play cast accompained by Miss ; Eateman went to Walla Walla Tues day afternoon to have a picture talc en. An effcrt is being made to have a practice basket ball game between the local alumni and the high school for this evening.
