M. Rader, attorney from Walla Walla was here on business Tuesday. Chamberlain, at Prestbye's Service Station, can keep your radiator from freezing. Lance Kellough and Cliff Culley of Weston were business visitors here Tuesday. Miss Ruth Proebslcl sang several times at Radio station KOWW Mon day night. A. M. Gillis passed through Athe na Wednesday en route to his hoim; at Washtucna. The Athena Study club will be guests of Mrs. E. M. Bollinger, next Friday afternoon. Harve Booher was here this week from Yakima, to attend the funer al of Hamp Booher. W. A. Dorothy, representing the Bankers Life Insurance company, was in Athena Saturday. Miss Wavel Mitchell of Weston Mountain spent the week end at the F. L. Pittman home. Max Dudley who farms at Palouse City, near Colfax, has been a visitor here during the week. Lee Banister, who is attending Cheney Normal school spent Thanks giving with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Johnson cams over from Bend to attend the funeral of the late Hamp Booher. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Prestbye have returned home from Seattle, where they visited relatives and friends Arnold Wood had the misfortune of painfully cutting his thumb. doctor was called to dress the injur ed member. Brooks Anderson, affable salesman for Rogers & Goodman, has been tak ing a vacation. He visited friends at Colfax and Spokane for several days. "Three Faces East" Standard, tomorrow night. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dickey, have returned from Idaho to Athena, to reside during the winter. Miss Roma Charlton came down from Washington State college, and spent Thanksgiving with her parents. Miss Mildred Stanton is home from Steilicoom, Washington, .where she was employed in the state hospital, at that place. E. E. Goff who spent the past week at the home of his daughter Mrs. R. B. McEwen, left for his home in Newberg, Monday. The Pacific Telephone Line crew is making its headquarters in Athena at present and is making repairs along the main line. Miss Ellen Henry came home from Willamette University Sunday, being called here by the death of her uncle, the late Hamp Booher. Mrs. J. W. Pinkerton entertained the Christian Missionary society Wednesday, instead of Mrs. Stella Keen, as announced last week. Miss Lois Mclntyre came down from Washington State College and spent Thanksgiving holidays at the home of her parents in Athena. Mrs. Minnie Mitchell and son, of Pasco, were in Athena this week, coming here to attend the funeral of Mrs. Mitchell's father, John Keen. Mrs. S. R. Booher and daughter Marjorie have been visiting friencb here during the week. She now makes her home at Dayton, Wash ington. James S. Bell who has spent the past month visiting an uncle at In dependence, near Kansas City, Mis souri, has returned to hi3 home in 'Athena. Flint Johns returned Wednesday from Portland and reports his moth er, Mrs. May Johns much improved and rapidly recovering from her re cent operation. Frank Miller, after two years' ab sence, dropped in On the home folks for Thanksgiving dinner. He was accompanied by his wife, who was formerly Miss Georgie Bradley, of Adams. Dr. A.M. Meldrum well known lect urer and former pastor of the Athe na Christian church will give a series of lectures beginning Monday 7:30 P. M. at the Christian church. Jess Gordon left Wednesday for Spokane to visit his father who is seriously ill in that city. Mrs. Gor don will visit relatives in Weston during her husband's absence. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Booher came up from Condon, to attend the fun eral of the late Hamn Booher. They visited at the William Booher and V. C. Russell homes while here. Rev. and Mrs. C. A. Phillips en joyed the visit last week of Mr. Phil lips, Sr., and Mrs. Green, of Elgin, father and sister of Rev. Phillips. They were guests over Thanksgiving. Thankseivine week guests at the E. A. Dudley home were: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kirk and children and Mr. and Mrs. Verne Dudley of Day ton; Max Dudley and family of La Cross, Washington and Ray and Don ald Dudley, of Pullman. Seth F. Hvatt of Gibbon, Oregon, and Mrs. Mary Leach of Ashland, Oregon, were the principals in a re cent wedding ceremony solemnized at Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. Hyatt will make their home at Gibbon, re ports the Weston Leader. Friends will be pleased to learn that Miss Jennamae Read, who has been critically ill in a hospital at Walla Walla, is steadily improving, and now considered by the attending physician to be out of danger, with bright prospects of permanent recov ery. Mr. and Mrs. Al Sigmon came down from their farm home near Moscow, Idaho, and spent the week in Athena and Freewater. Al reports good grain prospects in his section, and this fall he seeded 200 acres to wheat, and plowed 200 acres for spring seeding. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pinkerton were hosts at a house party during the Thanksgiving holidays. Thosd enjoying their hospitality include:l Mr. and Mrs. Alva Blalock and fam ily of Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Gray and family of Blue Mountain; Mrs. Gray and Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Pink erton of Milton. The Ladies Aid society of the Methodist church will hold a bazar and supper tomorrow at thr Meth odist church. The bazar will com mence at 4:00 and the supper at o:30. Mrs. Zeltha Mclntyre and son Neil were called to Tillamook Sunday by the serious illness of Mrs. Tucker (Kathryn Mclntyre) who was recent ly operated on at a hospital in tha city. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Mclntyre en tertained at dinner Thanksgiving, honoring their daughter Miss Lois I Mclntyre who was down from Pull j man, where she is attending W. S. I C. Phone 171. Athena, Oregon Mr. G. W. Hall, who was reported seriously ill in last week's school notes died at his home in Lostina Tuesday evening. Several A. H. S. students attended the Mac High-La Grande foot ball game in Milton Thanksgiving day. Mac High won and this gave them the Eastern Oregon championship. There were no absence marks in Miss Terrv's room and no tardy marks in Miss Sellar's room during' the past month. Mr. E. C. Rogers, chairman of the grade school board, visited the upper grades a short time Monday. Those on the honor roll of tha sev enth and eighth grades are: Mar guerite Moore, Marjorie Doug-las, Betty Eaer and Emory Rogers. Mr. Miller's room is busy now on book reports which will help them in their reading. The grades basketball team has issued challenges to the grade schools of Pendleton, Helix Adams and Wes ton and will try for games with Mil ton and Freewater. Mr. Miller spent Thanksgiving day in Walla Walla with his grrnd mother. He saw the foot ball game between Whitman and Willamette. Mr. and Mrs. demons visited the third and fourth grades Monday af ternoon. Those getting 100 in spelling for the past month are: fourth grade, Aaron Douglas, Barbara Lee, and Fern Carstens, Third grade: Anna bel Payne, and Doris Jenkins. Those getting 100 in arithmetic are Fourth grade: Arleen Foster and Fern Carstens. Third grade: An nabel Payne. Mr. Stolzheise lost his mustache during the recent holidays. Marjorie Booher, who now resides in Dayton, Washington, visited high school Tuesday. Reeve Betts, who is attending Wil lamette University at Salem, spent the Thanksgiving vacation at home. Frank Miller who is working in Portland was home for Thanksgiving dinner. Sixteen high school pupils succeed ed in getting on the honor roll this last six weeks. Edna DeFreece and Belle Anderson head the list. Roma Charlton and Lois Mclntyre visited with relatives and friends during the Thanksgiving vacation. They are now attending Washington State college.
