"To the citizens of Athena, Oregon:
"As the chief executive of the city
of Athena, hereafter, so long. as I re
tain the office of Mayor, I propose to
enforce the state law prohibiting
gambling in any and all forms; the
permitting of minora to loiter in sa
loons; the sale of intoxiating liquor
to minors; the running of disorderly
houses, and to the best of my ability
suppress vice, in any form it may
be found. In the performance of
this, which I consider my duty, I re
quest all law abiding citizens to as
sist me in enforcing the. law. ; .. ,
': ' - . Respectfully, ' ,
"David Taylor. Mayor." '
Ideal was the day for election' in
Athena and Umatilla county, .There
was no excitement in Athena, but a
fairly good vote was polled. The
surprise of the result brought forth
in polling the votes of North and
South Athena precincts is that both,
heretofore overwhelmingly democra
tic, gave Roosevelt a majority.
Max Dudley is out of school on ac
count of sickness.
J. N. B. Gerking has leased the
Johns place west of town.
The brick work on the new lodge
building is completed and the car
