Willamette University Glee Club Quartet, at Auditorium, Tonight
WiLLAMETTE'S FIHE QUARTET
FEATURES PROGRAM TONIGHT
These four young men form the
varsity quartet with the Willamette
University Men's Glee club which
presents a varied program of popu
lar and classical numbers at the
High School Auditorium tonight, at
8:00 p. m.
These chaps have several splendid
songs that cause prolonged applause
when ever they appear and were
deemed worthy of representing a
famous musical university, which
has for twenty-six years been pro
ducing prize winning glee clubs and
sending them over the country giv
ing the public samples rof high grade
music mixed with well chosen popu
lar numbers.
This glee club which comes to
Athena has long been recognized as
a powerful musical organization and
will be in its twenty-third tour this
February. This is an honor that no
other glee club in the northwest can
boast of. The songs of this club are
well chosen, likewise the club mem
bers, and experience has proven that
their offering . is always attractive
and pleasing to all that hear them.
Before reaching Athena, the club
sings at the. first M. E. church of
Portland, of Hood River at the
Auditorium, The Dalles, at Arling
ton High school. After leaving
Athena the club goes on to Spokane,
then over to Seattle where it spends
a week in northern Washington and
then home to Salem.
The manager says that everything
is pointing to a successful trip this
season. He hopes that Athena will
respond as well as they have to the
club in the past. "The only thing
that is worrying us now" he says,
"are those confounded exams."
A MAMMOTH TUSK
A seven foot mammoth tusk un
earthed at Salem by sewer diggers
Wednesday is declared by Professor
M. E. Peck of Willamette University
to be 50,000 years old. He says the
mammoth existed in Oregon prior to
the -glacial -period.
LIGHT POTATO TRADE
Because of the weakness of the
general potato market, farmers
throughout the country are holding
back their supplies. They have evi
dently watched the situation closely
this season, as whenever the excite
ment of trading began to abate and
prices drop, they withdrew from the
market. This index of confidence in
the future market would lead to the
expectation of another advance and
usually at this season of the year
higher price levels have followed the
periods of depression. At the pres
ent time the price situation appears
better in the west and north than in
the east.
MID-YEAR GRADUATES
Walla Walla high school has
graduated its first mid-year class of
30 members in the high school audi
torium. Twenty-five members were
presented with diplomas, the other
five being in attendance at institu
tions of higher learning or engaged
in other work which kept them from
the graduation exercises,
