Tomorrow night the Legion Post will give its dance at Legion HalL As this is the holiday dance, a large crowd is expected to be in attendance. All who contemplate participating in Christmas coral singing, including members of the Etude Club, will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Proudfit. -, ; . McEwen were guests at a University of Oregon alumni banquet at Pendleton Wednes day evening, where Mrs. McEwen was one of the speakers. r. During Mr. Norris' enforced absence from his harness shop, Mrs. Norris is attending ,to business. JA good sized audience was present at the Christian church, Friday eve ning, when Dr. Biirger lectured on the organization and purposes of the Ku Klux Klan. Dr. Burger's address is spoken of by those who heard it, as being a masterly one. "- Sleighs were requisitioned to convey a goodly number of people to the cemetery Wednesday, when the fun eral of the late H. P. Millen was held. Automobile conveyance was absol utely out of the question on account of soft deep snow in places on the highway. 'J . Dorwan Phillips circulated a sub scription paper this week, soliciting funds for the purpose of assistng the Baptist church in financing the year ly salary of its pastor. Mr. Phillips, who recently became a member of the church, was successful beyond his expectations. Dr. S. F. Sharp has so far recovered from his recent illness that he was able to be removed from the hospital at Pendleton, to his home in Athena. The doctor is slowly regaining his health, although at this time he is very weak. He was brought to his home here, yesterday. ' Mr. and Mrs. Ross Catron were up from their ranch in. the basin, north west of" Athena, Tuesday morning. Mrs. Catron is partial to her flock of Rhode Island Red pullets over any other variety. She is gathering eggs for market this winter. The manager of he Standard Theatre takes pleasure in recommend ing the . next two pictures to be screened there, "Beyond the' Rocks" and "Human Hearts," as being among the best produced by Paramount and Universal this year, y , h the fore part of the week that country people were unable to come to town to do their holiday trading. However, the roads are in passable shape now, and merchants report brisk trade. 1 J. E. Jones, rural mail carrier,-reports that he has seen large numbers of Chinese pheasants feeding at places along his route. TheHbirds, so far this winter, have had plenty of food in the fields. . Mrs. Chester McCollough is here from Tekpa, Washington, visiting at the homo of her parents,; Mr. and Mrs. John Harden, MrB. McCollough came hero to attend the funeral of the late H. P. Millen. ,., Mrs. McSherry, has returned to her home in Tacoma. She remained here until the condition of her father, Dr. S. F. Sharp, took a turn toward im provement. . Mr. and Mrs. W. 0. Read are at the home of Robert Coppock, Mrs. Read's father, in Athena, for the winter. , A large number of Christmas trees have been sold by the Pure Food gro cery, during the last few days. The members of the Pendleton bas ketball team attended the school play at the auditorium, last night. Mrs. 0. 0. Stephens visited at the home of her mother, Mrs. Kimball, in Dendleton, one day this week.
