When in pessimistic mood those
of us who do not own a cars are fond
of pointing out that a good half of
the people's financial woes is due
to lavish spending on automobiles
and the gasoline with which to run
them. Yet there's another phase of
the Question. Cars are a real asset
when used for service, and are like
wise of value in promoting the
enjoyment of the populace. Pursuit
Of pleasure, in moderation, is essen
tial to mankind's well-being, and cars
have afforded us a wonderful advan
tage over all preceding generations.
This temporal blessing is not to be
decried because of its frequent abuse
by speed demons and joy riders.
Rather should a strict curb be put
upon the letter's dangerous activi
ties. However, the citizen who
spends most of his surplus on auto
mobiles should lay the blame where
it properly belongs, and not on the
government, for his slim bank
account
Having sold to American "invest
ors" for $960,000,000 paper marks
that are now worth only $56,000,000,
Germany has made more out of the
printing business than most country
editors.

"it is hard to understand a sex that

- Notice is hereby given to the legal voters of School District No. 29
of Umatilla County, State of Oregon, that a school meeting of said district
will be held at the school house, on the -4th day of November, 1922, at 2
o'clock in the afternoon for the purpose of discussing the budget herein
after set out with the levying board, and to vote on the proposition of levy
ing a special district tax.
