Miss Cathrine Froome has returned from a visit to the home of Mrs. Phil lip Yenney, near Walla Walla. Pendleton Boy Scout troops are having their summer camping trip to Immigrant Springs, this week. W. C. Russel and daughter, Mrs. Allie Bell spent the week-end at Meachani, picking huckleberries. The mountains contain a large num ber of campers, the different resorts having their full quota of recreators. Mrs. R. B. McFadden returned last even ing in Dr. Smith's car from their nip to The Dalles and Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Haynie, Miss Waltha Haynie, and the three Haynie boys are in the mountains on a camp ing trip. Mrs. Jacob Proebstel returned to her home in Portland yesterday, af ter visiting with her sister, Mrs. M. M. Johns. Miss Minnie Perry of Walla Walla, is visiting at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Lucien Gagnon, south of Athe na, this week. Miss Naomi Dodine of Albany, was a week end guest at the Fred Gross farm home west of town. She is a cousin of Mrs. Gross. LyThe regular meeting of the Athena Commercial Club will be held next Tuesday evening. All members are: requested to be present. Mrs. J. W. Templeton of Seattle, accompanied by her step-son, visited at the home of Mrs. Jackson Nelson, Wednesday of this week. Marion Hansell's crop of wheat on the Winn place averaged 32 bushels per acre, and on his place the grain went 38 bushels to the acre. Recovered from a week's illness, W. R. Taylor, Pendleton chief of po lice, has returned to his official du ties in the county seat town. Mr. and Mrs. C. 0. The children will enter school here. L. C. Bevens is moving his bakery, lunch and confectionery store to its new location on the north side of Main street, between Third and Fourth streets. V George Payne attempted to use lohe of his mules as a sten-ladder. and as a result George thumped against the ground. He got up with a wrenched shoulder. Mrs. E. B. Johnson left Friday for Los Angeles, where she will visit a niece, and while there will take treat ment for the removal of a cataract one of her eyes. Mr. and Mrs. F. S. LeGrow left ly Sunday morning by automobile for the LeGrow stock ranch near Philipsburg, Montana and expect to be absent about a week. Mrs. Homer I. Watts arrived home Saturday evening after a visit with friends at Dallas, Portland and the beach. Her father, Mr. Butler, who lives at Dallas, is in ill health. The Baptist community church of Adams is temporarily without a pas tor, Rev. E. B. Luther having resigned to take a course of study at Univer sity of Oregon, the coming year. kfMr. and Mrs. Grant Prestbye will ieave soon for Nanton and Calgary Alberta, where Mrs., Prestbye has land interests. They will be away on the trip for three or four weeks. Charles Henry and Matt Johnson went to the Tollgate Sunday on a huckleberry prospecting trip, and they report few berries in that section. Athena, Oregon Loraine, also hunted berries in the mountains Sunday. The party saw two deer by the roadside. Mehlen Hayworth is supplying the Athena market with some very fine string beans grown by his father near Weston. The product is superior for the reason that it was raised on non irrigated land. Laurence Tharp came over from Walla Walla Wednesday, and visited at the home of his parents. While there, he accidently dropped the cel lar door on his right ankle, causing a serious sprain. Melvin and Bobbie Ingram, neph ews of Mrs. Robert Proudfit are spending the week camping on the Umatilla river. The boys reside in Washington, and are taking their summer vacation. Ralph Hassell, formerly one of the owners of the Pure Food Gro.cry in Athena, has formed a partnership with J. B. Cooley of Pendleton, and has purchashed the Charles Company business in that city. Mrs. Brotherton formerly of Athe na, now a resident of Walla Walla, was operated on at Hot Lake this week, for relief from cancer. She is reported better by her son, who was in Athena Wednesday. , J Arnold Koepke, who with other ex service men and officers of Athena attended the Legion convention at The Dalles last week, went on to Eugene where he joined his wife, who has been visiting her parents there. The Missionary and aid societies of the Christian church held a joint meeting in the church basement Wed nesday afternoon at which Mrs. F. E. Russell was the guest of honor. Refreshing ices and cake were served visit at Tacoma, with relatives. The return trip was made by Portland and the McKenzie pass, Crater Lrke and other points of interest being visited en route. Pendleton sportsmen who went to a pond near Reith, with the purpose of transplanting bass in the pond to one near Barnhart, found the fish, including two and three pound bass, dead. Low water and hot weather caused the death of the fish. Mrs. M. L. Watts and daughter, Vernita, returned Sunday from a two weeks stay at Bingham Springs. The cottage vacated by them was taken by Mrs. Kendall and Mrs. Storie of Pendleton. Mrs. Kendall and Dale Stephens being taken uo Sunday by !9uar Stephens. -"A Captain C. L. McFadden, who at tended the American Legion conven tion at The Dalles last week, reports a very interesting session. Xcap'n "Pete" came back a member of the "40 and 8 and judging from the smile he wears, the combination must be a live one. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wilson of More head, Iowa, are in the city, visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. C Russell. Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Rus sell are sisters and had not seen each other for 16 years. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson are accompanied by their daughter, Miss Fern. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wood of Mc Minnville were in the city the fore part of the week, having come here to visit Henry Wood an uncle. They visited at the home of John Stanton and Charles McFarland, and proceed ed on to Lehman Springs, where Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wood are spending the summer. Mr. Wood is city el ectrician of McMinnville. After 20 years absence from Athe na, Fred Fisher drifted back for a few hours visit with old friends, Wed nesday. Fred Is in the auto top busi ness at Mercede and Medesto, Calif ornia. He formerly conducted a har ness shop here. His brother Charles is in the grocery business at Berke ley, and is doing well. Fred was ac companied by his nephew, Fred Arm strong, and they motored on to Spo kane. Uncle Lew Wilmot, writing the Press from his home at 1056, Gladys Ave. ,Long Beach, Cal., tells of a re cent celebration there of the 88th birthday of Mr. Francis Foley, well known to many people of this county. The guests comprised members of the Foley family, and Mr. and Mrs. Wil mot.
