Pendleton The monthly meeting of the Pa-rjnt-Teachers' circle which occurs at the school auditorium this evening promises to be an attraction of unu sual interest. The committee have taken especial pains in preparingva program in which the spirit of Christmas is predominant, and espec ial emphasis is to be given the sub ject of books for children. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Taylor are ex pecting the arrival of their daughter, Mrs. Delbert Clore, and her little daughter Betty Jean, from their home in Abingdon, Illinois. They are ac companied on the journey by Mrs. George Clore and daughter, Mrs. Ad die Byram and her son, Raymond, who go on through to Corvallis and return here later to visit. Mrs. D. H. Sanders leaves today for a holiday visit with her mother, Mrs. Ashpaugh, in Corvalis. She will be joined there by her daughter, Miss Hazel, who is attending U. of 0., and will spend her vacation in Corvallis. Mrs. Sanders is recover ing from a recent painful injury, in which the large bone in her wrist was broken. Mrs. Chester Davis, who is in a very serious condition from poison contracted while packing apples after they had been sprayed with a chem ical solution, has been taken to Wal la Walla by Mrs. Gerking, and is In care of a nurse. The patient is suf fering from painful blisters which cover her entire body. In giving names of guests at the home of Mrs. H. A. Barrett, who en tertained the Star Club last week, the name of Mrs. Areta Clinton was in advertently omitted, and correction is thus made. The club will be enter tained next Tuesday by Miss Hazel n. iss Catherine Froome and Miss Halel Saunders of Athena are two of the i3 University of Oregon women who have organized a new house of the campus, to be known as Delta Psi. They will petition the national Delta Zeta sorority for a charter. Mrs. Seth Haworth has again been in a serious condition this week, but is reported better at present. Whiteman home in Walla Walla. Mr. and Mrs. D. Scott Fisher and daughter Charlotte, will be guests at the Milby home in Milton, Christmas. C. Richards of the Willamette vallek was a recent visitor at the homef his brother, B. B., in this city. School Notes Owing to preparations for Christ mas school items are scarce this week. The teachers will leave for their vacations on Wednesday after noon. Principal and Mrs. Gene Hall are going to North Powder to spend Christmas. Mrs. Amy McDaniel ac companies her husband, J. E. McDan iel, to Portland. Miss Fay Warren goes to Kelso, Wash., to visit her brother; Mr. Hadley to his home at Turner, Oregon; Miss Grant to Portland; Miss Hudson to her home in Pendleton; and Miss Cook and Miss Sherman will remain in Athena. Vacation begins Wednes day, the 24th, and will end on Mon day, January 6. Nina Tharp is absent this week on account of sickness. Lola Stockstill is back to her stud ies in the 5th and 6th grade room af ter a week's absence. Russell Garden is absent from school this week. Miss Warren was a dinner guest Sunday at the home of Mrs. Will Counter. Mr. 0. H. Reeder and Mrs. A. Matthews were visitors in the pri mary room this week. In spite of the extreme cold weath er this week, attendance has been up to normal and interest is good. The rooms have been kept comfortably warm under the efficient care of Mr. Pinkerton. Preparing for Christmas. The various rooms of the school are gaily draped in Christmas deco rations, which have all been prepared by the children. In the primary room festoons of green and red paper chains depend from ceiling to walls, all made by the busy hands of the little folks. Here a short program will be given for the children and pa rents. The general program will be given at 1:30 on Wednesday after noon in the auditorium, when all the grades will participate. At this season of the year frozen desserts and light, easily digested dishes ure more suitable. During the hot weather we need refreshing com binations rather than the nourishing; however, one may have both In a dish of Ice cream. A most satisfac tory sherbet, which is both delicious and economical, is Velvet Sherbet. Take the juice of three lemons, two cupf uls of sugar and a quart of good milk, the richer the better, though ordinary milk will be satisfactory. Freeze and serve in sherbet cups. Orange and Lemon Sherbets Take the juice of two oranges, two lemons and two cupfuls of sugar and a quart of thin cream; freeze as usual. Dainty Dessert. Take a pound of marsbmallowH and a cup of pecans cut fine; cut the mallow's into quarters and add enough whipped cream to blend and hold them together. Into a large-topped sherbet glass put a table spoonful of any tanned fruit juice, nil with the whip and serve with a cherry as a garnish. Duchess Cream. Take six table spoonfuls of tapioca ; cook until clear ; cool, add a pinch of salt, one cupful of sugar, the Juke from a can of pine apple, the juice of two oranges and two lemons; cook until thick. Cool, then add the pineapple, one cupful of nuts and u pint of whipping cream. This makes enough to serve IB, so that the recipe may be cut in half for an ordinary family. Chocolate Pudding. Take one egg and when well beaten add one-halt cupful of sugar, one cupful of milk, two squares of chocolate melted, one and one-half cupfuls of flour sifted with three teaspoonfuls of baking pow der. Steam one and one-half hours and serve with Foamy Sauce. Bent one egg, add one cupful of powdered sugar mixed with two tablespoonfuls of softened butter, a pinch of salt and a Httlo flavoring; then fold In one cupful of whipped cream.
