After a week's vacation, when the principal and corps of teachers at tended the session of the institute at Pendleton for the first three days, spending the last three in Thanksgiv ing vacation, school activities have begun with renewed interest. The High school took the Standard Courtis "13" test Monday morning without a winner. Thelma Kretzer and Enid Cartano made best records with credits of 28 correct answers in thnee minutes. 'vThe present line-up for the first tealu in basket ball is: Robert Ko privaSand Herman Geissel, forwards; Leon Kretzer, center; Claud Snider and Dorvan Phillips, guards. Joyce Johnston, who recently ar rived with her parents from Metolius, Oregon, is a new student in the High school. As announced in Miss Nason's re port at the institute last week, Asa Arbogast of the sixth grade in the Athena school bears the clistinction of being the first and only scnodl atu dent in Umatilla county to be grant ed the Home Reading certificate by the county librarian. In order to be entitled to receive this certificate, ten books must be read and a written re port made on each book. Leroy Johnston is a new student, having enrolled in the eighth grade. His brother, Ray, is in the fifth grade. A Christmas program is in course of preparation to be gvien on the af ternoon of Wednesday. Christmas Eve, in the school auditorium. All the grades, from first to eighth, will participate. Honor roll, third and fourth grades Mary Berlin, Hollis Dennis, Ches ter Dugger, Gertrude Eaton, Areta Kirk, Edwin McEwen, Loraine Mc Louth, Oral Michener, Elver Miller, Emma Ringel, Maxine Thompson, Merritt Cook, Dorothy Geissel, Helen Hansell, George Pambrun, Kathleen Radtke, Thena Russell, Doris Schu bert, Merle Thompson, Annie Messenger. With the enrollment of Geneva Staggs in the third grade this week, the enrollment of the third and fourth grade room reaches 45. Great interest in the better health movement is being taken by the pu pils of the lower grades. Captains of divisions are appointed in the dif ferent rooms, and it is the office of these captains to maintain strict ob servance of health and cleanliness rules. It is gratifying "to note the earnestness with which the leaders enforce the rules, and the improve ment in personal appearance of the little folks. The move is the direct result of the recent visit of the coun ty health nurse to the schools, and will doubtless bear good results. With the enrollment of Glen Barton into the first grade this week, the enrollment of the primary room has been raised to 38. Leonore Reeder and Beryl Taylor were operated on last week for the removal of adenoids and tonsils, but arc not yet well enough to return to school. A game of basket ball between the respective teams of Athena and Helix high schools is announced for Friday evening, December 12, in the local court. tIIIIMHIIItlHMIIIMMtMiltltlllllllflll Athena Gar age ZERBA BROS.
