Minnie Willaby arrived home Tuesday after a pleasant week's visit at the home of her son, Clyde, near Contfon. Miss Erllne Reynolds, of Milton, who has been a guest of her sister, Mrs. E. D. Elliott, the past week, has returned to her home. Mrs. Emma Evans and daughter Minnie, of Eugene, are visiting at the home of Mr. G. W. Gross. Mrs. Evans is a sister of the late G. W. Gross. Mrs. Sanford Stone was hostess Tuesday afternoon to the ladies of the M. E. Aid society. The time was spent in sewing, and refreshments were served by the hostess. And on the side, Lorain finds time to run errands and go swimming. Mrs. Frank Miller is here from Klamath Falls, visiting her mother, Mrs. Walker, who Is in declining health. Her husband, Frank Miller, Is chief of the Klamath Falls fire de partment. Mrs. Miller will remain with her mother for some time. A letter from George Winship, who is in the General Hospital a,t Fort DOuglas, Utah, states that he expect? soon to be sent to San Francisco, for further treatment, and hopes to be granted a Ifurlough from sufferlnt; from heart and lung trouble, and pic tures received by his friends would indicate that he has lost some avoir dupolse during his protracted illness. Ralph, the little son of Mrs. W. J Carstens, is again in the hospital at Pendieton, under care of Dr. Parker. A second operation took place last week, when a portion of the bone was removed. It is feared there Is a possibility of the boy losing his foot. Ernie Blomgren, of the 116th En gineers, surprised his friends here by walking in Sunday evening. He was on the wrecked train No. 19, at Thorn Hollow, Sunday morning, and was de layed in Pendleton all day. He vis ited his sister, Mrs. John Barnes here, and was accompanied to his father's home near Weston, by Mr. and Mrs. Barnes. He repents that his "buddy." Sylvan Kennard, and he were sepa rate ,but that Kennard will arrive in a few days. Sunday he took dinner in Pendleton with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graham, the latter a sister of Mr. Kennard. A letter from Mrs. Effie Edington Smith, to the Press this morning tells of attending the funeral of Everett Gillia, whictmccurred in Seattle uar'.y in the week. Mrs. Smith is in Seattle with her daughter, Mrs. Leta Johnson, who is attending summer school at Washington University. Athena people attending the Weston Chautauqua, report a very interesting talk last evening by Lieutenant Quin ney of the Canadian Army. Tonight the Chautauqua closes with a concert and entertainment by the Royal Ha waiian Band. & Edgar Forrest dejJvered the first grain of the new crop at B. B. Rich ards' mill Monday of this week. The consignment was barley of a very good quality and was cut in a field left for the crop to volunteei last fall. Miss Rutb Stewart was operated upon for appendicitis, yesterday at the Deaconess Hospital, in Spokane. The condition of the patient is very satis factory. Dan Clark, of Wallowa county, who has just been discharged from the ser vice, is a guest at the A. L. Swaggart home north of town. Miss Henderson of Sunnyside, Wash., and Mise LaFortune of Walla Walla, have been guests this week of Miss Elvena Bergevin. The Oeorge Thompson and Will Tinkerton families have, returned from Bingham springs, after several days vacation. Announcement is made of the birth of a daughter, on July loth, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graham in Pendleton.
