Miss Ethel Duncan was over from
Weston the first of the week visiting
relatives and friends.
Mayor Banister, of Weston, accom
panied by Sim Culley, was in town
Tuesday on business.
W. C. Miller returned from Seattle
Sunday evening, and is employed tem
porarily at Steele's harness shop.
Rain the past week has taken off the
two inches of snow and only the moun
tains are dressed in a mantle of white.
Louis Stewart is now a sergeant in
the military training school of
Willamette University, where he is a
student.

Rev. Geo. T. Klein and family have
moved to Walla Walla, where Mrr.
Klein will serve as pastor of the Free
Methodist church, Rev. Klein still
holding his pastorate here and on Wes-
Mountain.
Mrs. James Zerba has an ambitious
Plymouth Rock hen, which in compli
ment to the weather ccnditions of this
favored clime, some time ago hatched
a winter brood of chicks. All the little
fuzzy wuzzies perished tut one, and
that, contrary to the laws of heredity,
a white one. It is suggested that the
Red Cros3 contribute a pair of knitted
sox to tide the little fellow over the re-

last Friday evening from Cayley, Al
berta, where they visited at tne nome
of their daughter, Mrs. Starr Charl
ton. Mr. Charlton is farming a choice
section of Alberta land, and this year
raised a good crop of wheat. Very
little snow had fallen in that part of
Alberta, this winter, but the thermom
eter has recorded 115 degree below
zero.
Mica ;i,k.s Andre, was the inspir
ation for a very pleasant function at
the home of Mrs. Homer I. Watts,
Saturday afternoon, in which the young
lady herself was completely surprised.
A number of presents were "showered
upon the bride-to-be, and an uniquo
"wedding cake" was cut in her honor.
The wedding is announced to occur in
Portland, where the prospective groom.

afternoon at 9 o'clock. A few stu
dents were exempt from all examina
tions, while others were exempted
from at least one Report cards will

The residence of N. A. Miller had a
narrow escape from being burned to
the ground Wednesday evening. An
extension table collapsed, on which
was a large Rochester lamp, the oil
from which took fire. Mr. Miller had
his hands severely burned while ex
tingishing the flames.
The lady friends of Mrs. Kate Caton
gave her a surprise party on Saturday,
the 12th inst. Mrs. Caton was the re
cipient of many tokens showing the es
teem in which she is held y an ner
