of several contractors, the Athena
sobool board opened tbe bids for tbe
oonstruotion of the new sobool build
ing, snbjeot to the plana and specifi
cations submitted by Tourtellotte &
Hummel, arobiteoti. Tbe oootract
bad been well advertised and a large
nnmbei of bids were received.
The bids aooepted and oontraota as
let by the board, aggregate a total of
$39,355 for oonatrnotion of tbe build
ing oomplete , not including archi
tect's commission and furnishing of
tbe building.
Zopb Brothers of LaGrande, were
the lowest and successful biddeis on
tbe geneial oontraot of excavation,
grading, removal of trees and con
struction of bnilding. Tbeir bid was
for 138,620. Tbe beating and ventil
ating plant oontraot was let to J. C.
Bayer & Or-., of Portland, for 4,800.
The successful bidder on the
plumbing oontraot waa G. H. Suther
land, of Walla Walla, whose bid was
$1,485. '
The sobool board is elated over the
reasonable amount for which it is pos
sible to complete Athena's new sohool
building. The plans aud speolfioations
call for the ooustiootion of one of the
most modem and oomplete school
buildings fonud anywhere in East
ern Oregon. They are satisfied that
every one of tbe contractors are thor
oughly reliable and oompetent in every
way to carry out tbeir oontraota to tbe
letter.
Tbe reasonableness was a surprise to
