Frank formerly resided in Atbena
and attended school. He is now a

Eugene Saturday evening for the
summer vacation. Maurioe is doing

Mrs. George Woodward entertained
the Sunshine club on June 5. Three
visitors, Mrs. Jesse Hales, Mrs. Law

Milton Eagle: Reports from tbe
Toll Gate 20 miles south of Milton
say that tbe gate oaonot be reached

potted at the Toll Gate for years. For

along Squaw creek he took 28 trout
weighing a total of 25 pounds. There

Charles Gerking was in from bis
ranoh west of town yesterday. He is
in the midst of bis alfalfa' bay bar-
vest, and estimates that his neighbor
hood will produce 600 tons of alfalfa
hay tbis season. Some of tbe hay
was out before tbe rains of last week
and bad to te bandied with extra
work, that it might dry out before
being plaoed in tbe staoks.
East Oregonian: Dr. I. (J. Temple
and Dr. J. D. Plamondon are rival
candidates for tbe position of superin
tendent of the Eastern Oregon state
hospital aooording to a news slory
from Salem. The story is to tbe effect
that tbe two men named are tbe only
applicants thus far and that the
board is liable to elect asupeiintend-
ent the first of next montb.
There appears to te a scarcity of
men for tbe bay harvest in this vicin
ity. Whille the hay season lasts nut
a few days, when tbe hay is ready for
tbe staok it is essential that it should
be put there without delay on aooount
of nnoertain weather conditions. Sev
eral farmers have been in town engag
ing men for the hay fields and in some
iustanoes found it a didioult task.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sobmitt re
turned home Friday from Waitsburg,
Wash., where they were guests at tbe
wedding ot Mr. Henry Vollmer, son
cf Mr. and Mrs. Gustae Vollmer, and
Miss Katherioe MoCall. a popular
young lady of that oity. Tbe wedding
was a very elaborate dffair, and took
place on June 12 in tbe Cbristian
