And that good natured Walla Walla bunob even tbey, too, got tbeir mon ey's worth and tben some. Good losers, every one of 'em. Tbe Bears came to towo loaded for bear, and a good time. Bat tbey did n't take anything borne with thorn bnt tbe good time; they left tbe game rigbt here in this old town, and tbey were as cheerful abont it as a bnnob of canaries, reports from elsewbere to tbe contrary notwithstanding. Aside from a couple of decisions by Umps Van Winkle, they liked it all, and said so, and played tbe game from a to izzard in every stanza except tbe eigbtb, bnt well that's farther along in tbe story. So let's lilt a little. With Mr. "Hnnky" Sbaw, Mr. Johnson and another Mr. or two. Aag was properly "fixed" for tbe Millers on paper, cnly. For. Mr. Walter Frink, the man who ouused all kinds of guesses and on whom nobody had tbe rigbt dope, was on tbo monud for Athena. By some bo was said to be a soldier from Van couver; Walla Walla bad him on tbeir badges as Hollis, and he pitohed under tbe name of Smith. And be pitobed a swell game so swell that after bis tryont he bad no trouble in golting in with Roll Brown at the 'Tannery," and will benoefortb make bis home in Atbena. He was pitted against Hanson, Walla Walla's clever twirler, who started right off tbe reel bv fanning Clark and Peiland, after Walla Walla had been retired in the first in 1, 2, 3 order. Harmon soored for tbe Bears in the seoond when he got a Boratoh single, stole second and went to third when Frink dropped Seachrist's pop-np and oroesed tbe platter on Lankard's hit. Tben the Millers came back in tbeir half with three runs. Pioard teat out an iufield bit and stole second; Brown went out, Beck to Sbaw. Lieu- alien was safe on Beck's error, Pioard going to third. Bundy laced out a two sacker, Picard sooring. Tben Friuk showed himself to Le ducks with the stick, by finding Hanson for a tingle, wbieb soored Lieuallen aud Bundy. Then Walla Walla tied it up in the third when Blackman and Beck soored. Blaokmuu's third strike get ting away liooi Brown, two singles, a stolen base aud an error letting tbe runs over. Then tbe two teams, working like maobines, and the pitchers buzzing over their offerings in mid-season style, it was ia again. out-again until Hanson weakened in tbe eigbtb, and tbe persimmon was plucked and pick led. DePeatt, who had been easy for Hanson all the afternoon, fanned for tbe third time and it looked like an extra innnig affair, was to be dished up. But nay, nay, Pauline what did Friuk do bnt break up the aspira tions of Mr. Hanson by stepping into a corking smash that went for only two bases just beoause a home run was prevented by a mebeley fence post getting in front of tbe ball. However, tbe bingle was contagions, for Owens and Peiland singled in succession, wbiob with tbe aid of a fielder's choioe and Siegriat's error, let three runs over. Tbe Bears gave no trouble in tbe ninth, Lankard going out, FrinK to Clark, while Hanson and Beck fanned. On 12 hits only, Milton accumulated a total of 20 rooB while Pendleton got 8 safe bingles and 6 rnns. Milton comes to Athena Sunday; Weston goes to Walla Walla and Eoho to Pendleton. Gatober Keefe had his bum finger hurt in the Eoho game. Bade and "Huuky" Sbaw fished on Tuoanon this week, and Bade caught a trout 22 inobes long. Tbe Union says he used a saok of Athena flour for bait. Manager Littlejobn attended a meet ing of tbe league directors at Poodle ton last night. The action of tbe league offioials resulted in the reten tion of Sbaw and other players on tbe Walla Walla team, and Frink on the Athena team. Evidently the offioials favor giving the pnblio the best ball possible. Athena High sohool defeated Dayton Hgh in this city Saturday by a score of 6 to 5. Both teams used players not entitled to play under intersohol astio ruling. Notice to Creditors. In tbe County Court of tbe State of Oregon for Umatilla County.
