A number of prominent Indians
have wired the department at Wash
ington favoring the removal of ', Agent
MoFatridge. They assert that the
agent favored the bankers and mer
chants of Pendleton more than he did

W. S. Byers, tbe pioneer miller,
died Weduesday morning at his borne
in Pendleton. His death oame sud
denly and was the result of diabetes.

M. J. Gookerline, the well known

One week from today and tomorrow
is the date of the Pioneers' Pionio at
Weston. Extensive preparations have
been made for the entertainment of all
visitors. The usual good time will be
in store for all who attend.
In a $35,000 fire reoently at Chelan,
Wash., Wm. Ridenour, a. brother of
Mrs. Fred Boyd of this city, suffered
a loss of $100 on a barn, and L. W.
Barnes, nephew of Wm. Kilgore, a
damage of $500 to his residence. . .
Dr. Joseph Baddeley, tbe veterinary
jmrgeon, will be in tbe oity from
Boise , Idaho, between June 5th and
12th and will remain for a few days.

ohuroh at Milton will establish a gym
nasium, for the purpose of introducing j

Tbe taxpayers of Weston will have
a meeting Monday, May 31, to decide
whether a high school will be estab
lished or not. The indications are that
a large majority are in favor of estab
lishing a sobool to teaob students in
grades higher than the eighth.
X The Press is in reoeipt of an invita
tion to attend the commencement ex-
eroises at the Eastern Oregon Normal

and Tuesday. The invitation is sent
by courtesy of Miss Doris Barnes, of

The Ideal Christian Association held
their weekly sooial last Friday night
at the pleasant home of Mr. and Mrs.
N. Soott. Tbe young people were
conveyed to tbe place of meeting in an
up-to-date hay raok. AJ1 enjoyed the
evening immensely and regretted the
arrival of the hour of departure.

Mr. and Mrs. William MoKenzie, of
Weston, were trading in the oity Wed
nesday morning. Mr. MoKenzie has
contracted with tbe Kidder painters
of tnis oity to paint and decorate his
magnificent new barn,' recently com
pleted on his farm just east of Weston.
This building is said to be tbe largest
private barn in tbe county.
Decoration Day is to be observed at
Athena in the usnal appropriate man
ner. The local G. A. R. post has is
sued a call for a general cleaning up
of tbe cemetery. The work will be
gin at 2 p. m. Saturday, May 29. Sou-
