"Oregon is destined to become the greatest apple growing center in the world"! the statement wbioh five memters of the state boaid of horti culture include in their reports filed with HeoretaryWilliamHon last week. Millions of apple and pear trees aro to be planted this spring, 1.000,000 to be planted in Jackson coonty alone, which when in a few years tbey begin to tear trait, will plaoo the apple and pear growing industry on a plane snob as it has never before known. Still better news to the people of the. state is the fact that with the ex ception of a slight damago done to the peach tree and loganberry bashes, the the extreme cold weather of late Jan uary did practically no damage to the trees of the state. In fact, thousands of slips aio being sent out of the state to Idaho and Washington points tor propagation. Reports were filed last week from W. K. Newel, president, R. H. Weber, treasurer, and M. O. JLownsdale, A. H. Carson and Judd Geer, commissioners. Eaob and every one of tbem was filled with bright prospects, although all of them took oooasion to condomn the portraying of overly big crops. Tbe crops this year aocoidiog to the reports will be average, with tbe ex ception of loganberries and peaches the most tendor of all fruits. There will be a light but exoellent quality crop of these fruits while tbe apples pears and hardier fruits will produoe a fairly good crop. The tips of tbe branches owiug to tbe gradual drop wbioh the thermometer took before tbe cold weather were but little affect ed and should bear well. The planting of new trees this year has sarpassed anything ever known in this section. Millions of plants and trees have been set out witb tbe re sult that within tbe next few years tbe output of the same should be al most double what it is now. Joseph ine, Jackson fend Douglas counties were all reported as having planted many trees. Jackson oonnty growers planted nearly 1,000,000 apples and pear trees while in Josephine oonnty nearly 500,000 grapevines were plant ed. These were mostly of tbe Tokay variety. Up Before The Bar. N. II. Brown, an attorney, of Fitts Died, Vr., writes: "We have used Dr. King's New life Pills for years and find tbem sucb a good family medicine we wouldn't be without them."
