Mrs. Zeph Lock wood Jr. went down

James Potts reoently underwent a
surgical operation for an old time
trouble, in a hospital at Seattle, Wash.
He is said to be improving rapidly and
is expected to arrive home in the near
future.

a visit with friends in Walla Walla
yesterday morning, and Austin re

annual two weeks vacation, spent at
Seattle, Taooma, and Moro, Sherman
county, where his brother and sister
reside.

returned Tuesday from Portland, where
he spent a couple of days in selecting
his holiday stook. Before returning
he went to Corvallis and visited his
Bon Rawla, who bos been ill for sev
eral weeks with typhoid fever. The

pa. B. MoEwen, Henry Koepke and
Will Ferguson of this oity, attended,
the big meeting of the Knights Tem
plar at Walla Walla, Wednesday
night. The conclave was attended by
a large number of Pendleton Knigbs
and the Order of the Temple was con
ferred upon five candidates.
The Pioneer, the Whitman College
paper, is ono of the best college jour
nals that finds its way to the Press ex
change table. . Arthur Stone, '09, of
this oity is editor in chief, and he is
assisted by an exceptionally able staff
of writers. The Pioneer is an ever
lasting booster for . the future "Yale
of the West."

ceipt for $7.50 whioh was the amount
of the collection taken at the Thanks
giving service in the M. E. church,
when a union service was held.
The money was Rent to the Wash
ington Children's Home Society, and
was received with thanks from Rev.
M. A. Covington, Superintendent for
Eastern Washington at Spokane.
y'Miss Lula Tbarp reoeived serious
injury to her knee last week while
standing on a chair in her room at the
girls' ball at the Weston Normal
school. The knee oap slipped, caus
ing great pain. Mr. Tharp was phoned
for and brought her home, but later
the young lady returned to her studies
at the Normal, where she is able to
keep up with ber classes. .
"Rev. Herbert E. Ryder has aooepted
aoall to the pastorate of the Baptist
ohuroh of this city and will conduot

the usual hours, morning and evening.
Rev. Ryder comes to the Athena
church with very flattering recom
mendations and it is hoped tbat be

At a tryout for the Donor of debat
ing on the Lewiston high sobool team,
against the Spokane high school and
the preparatory department of the
University of Idaho, Maurice Hill,
formerly of this oity, scored the high
est number of points, 244 in a class
of nine delators. The question wast
"Resolved that the State of Idaho
should pass a county local option
law."
