dress of welcome by E. A. Holmes of
Wallowa and a response by Colonel
F. S. Ivanboe of LaUrande. Judge
T. II. Crawford, and other prominent
. men are on the program for speeches.
After the speaking a mnsioal program
will be given at the grove near Wall
owa. Tables with hot coffee, tea,
fruit eto., will be arranged. Broncho
busting, riding and other diversions
will enliven the day.
Many prominent railroad officials
will come np from Portland and join
the exoursiou from LaGrande, among
whom will be W. H. MoMurray, the
general passenger agent of the O. R.
& N. It is expeoted that many of the
citizens of Portland and the Inland
Empire will join in the celebrution
of this important event.

Rangers on the Coenr d'Aleno forest
reserves in Northern Idaho have re
ceived orders from tbo department at
Washington to gather seeds of tam
arack, and white and yellow pine,
which will be sown broadcust on the
Athena Opera House

good roads legislation, a direct prim
ary law, a constitutional amendment
establishing initiative and referen
dum, and municipal ownership of
public utilities.

Brittan Follows Gypsies.
R. L. Brittan, tbe father of little
Cecil Brittan, who was lost at tbe toll
cate a few years ago. was at Elgin
last Friday and Saturday keeping
track of a band of gypsfes tbat were
in this section during tbe latter part
of the week, says the Recorder. Tbe
supposition is that the gypsies know
tbe whereabouts of tbe boy and he was
keeping a good watoh on tbem. Tbe
gypsies came here from Walla Walla
country and they are supposed to know
something in regard to tbe boy but if
tbey did it was never shown during
their stay in this city. Tbey were
closely watobed during their stay here
and those who were watobing tbem
say that tbey never showed any signs
of having the boy with tbem or know
ing bis wberebouts. Mr. Brittan
returned to bis borne last Saturday
fully convinced that it was another of
tbe many wild goose chases tbat he
has taken part in lately
