day evening attended a tennis party
given by tbe Bowknot club of Weston,
of whion she is a member.
Cecil Dell of St Johns, Wasb., is
in the oity visiting at tbe home of his
Uncle, Dr. L. Dell. Mr. Dell is em
ployed in a bant at St. Johns, and is
taking his summer vacation.
A. U. Gilliland, telegraph operator
at tbe O. R. & N. depot, has been in
Weston this week where he took the
place of Agent Walters for a few days,
while the latter was on a short vaca

tage on 4th street. Mr. Gross in oom
pany with bis son-in-law, Luke Read,
will run tbe farm for- the next few

YChas. Gay aud family came down
from Waitsburg last week and went
out to Mission, on tbe Umatilla river,
where Mr. Gay will again have charge
of tbe wheat warehouse during tbe re
ceiving season.
Miles Overbolt, one time publisher
of the Freewater Times, is now editor
of tbe Tangefoot Magazine, published
at Portland. Overbolt is a clean,
olever humorist, and is giving his
readers tbe worth of their money.
Rev. Hacker, pastor of tbe Baptist
church at Adams, preaobed an inter
esting sermon at tbe ohurob here Sun
day morning. Rev. Hacker and wife
left Monday for the mountains, where
they will take a month's vaoation.
This part of tbe oountiy was visited
by a thunder storm early Wednesday
morning which for violence and noise
would compare ' favorably with an
eastern storm. It lasted about an hour
and was succeeded by a heavy rain.

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Bannister and
daughter, Helen, returned this week
from a six weeks' stay with Mr. and
Mrs. Hugh MoArthur in Portland, and
are at present visiting at the Caton
home near. town. Tbe Bannister and
McArthur families spent some time
at the fceacb. during the time they
were absent. .
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kemp, who
visited at the I. M. Kemp home in
this city after their honeymoon trip
to Portland, left Monday for their
home at Newport, Wasb. The newly
married pair will live on a ranob in
tbe Newport oountry. -
Mrs. Theo. Danner has secured the
Hessel residence in Weston and will
move there in September, for the pur
pose of boarding girls who wish to at

already has the promise of several
young ladies as boarders.

going to Baker and hopes o return
here later in the season, to preaoh to
his congregation before passing in his

neoessary owing to his enfeebled con
dition. They expect to spend tbe sum
mer in the mountains near that city.;

Mrs. Luther Shellenberger and
young son, Rollo, from tbe Blue moun
tain colony-are guests for . a few-days
at the Felix Deathe home.
Dr. Miles Hopkins of Walla Walla
is visiting his brother on Weston
mountain.
The Rev. . S. Rogers of the Bap
tist church has left for Paohnts, Miss.,
to meet with an association . convened
there. It is his old home and he an
ticipates great pleasure in meeting
former parishioners.
Miss Graoe Edwards of Pendleton
began her summer term of sohool on
Basket mountain Monday. Miss Ed
wards condnoted a highly satisfactory
winter sohool on tbe mountains enjoy
ing a brief vacation between terms.
Sunday tbe mercury rested from its
labors at 99 degress tbe highest climb
of tbe season so far. Tbe iigbt rain
sprinkle and cooling breezes that fol
lowed after nightfall were gracious
boons to a sweltering oommunity.
Mrs. M. J. Cookerline and daughter,
Grace, took a business trip to Athena,
Monday morning.
Mrs. L. S. Wood is making a 7isit
at Pendleton where she has several rel
atives. Dr. Carl Williams lias returned
after an absence of several weeks. He
has been suffering from a bad baud in
which blood poison developed but is
now rapidly improving. Dr. Williams
has re-opened his dental offices though
not yet sure of taking up permanent
residence at 'Weston.
' Will Talk. All He Can.
In an interview with the Associated
Press Judge! Alton B. Parker stated
that he intended to otter bis services
to the democratic national committee
as a campaign speaker and would de
vote all the time he could. He said
he would speak outside of New York,
bat at this time could not say what
places he would speak in. Judge
Parker said be believed the democrats
had a good cbanoe to carry New York
this year and that he would give bis
hearty support to Bryan and Kern.
W. F. Guion Dead.
W. F.'Guion, one of the owners of
tbe Pendleton Tribune, died Monday
morning at Walla Walla, as tbe result
of 1 diabetes. Tbe deoeased was born
in Indiana and was about 45 years of
ago. He was for many years engaged
in newspaper work, and held prom-
iu ent positions in Omaha, Spokane
and Walla Walla, before going to tbe
f endleton Tribune. A wife , and one
Bon survive him.
Girl is Lost.
FIoreooe'GngBby, a 14-year-old girl,
was brougbt.to Walla Walla, Monday,
afternoon by a constable from Milton,
and given into tbe care of Chief Davis
until relatives call for her. When
found, tbe young lady was in tbe
chapel of Columbia college in Milton
playing on the organ. Sbe was unable
to tell tbe offioer where she lived, and
was brought to tbie oity to be cared
for until her relatives could oe found.
