A correspondent at Jnlietta, Idaho,
writing to tbe Lewiston Tubune con
cerning the Alaska wheat
Tbe experience of A. Adams witn

Of tbe propagation of wheat and
ho hansv vieHa tin cava: '
Some three years ago I procured one
head of wheat with which I have been
experimenting. I sowed the one bead
in tbe fall of 1904 and in tbe summer
of 1905 harvested seven pounds. Sow
ed the seven ponnds in tbe spring of
1906 and harvested 1,545 pounds that
fall.
Sowed in tbe fall of tbe same year
bnt last year's orop was mostly de
stroyed by tbe heavy snow fall in tbe
winter and by a , bail storm in Jnly,
but saved enough to sow a nnmber of
hundred acres tbis fall and spridg for
a orop in 1S08. I raised over 200
times tbe amount of seed sown every
crop not destroyed by storms.
Spray for Lawns.
Two special nuisances in lawns are
dandelions aud plantain. Tbe tests
made at tbe North Dakota experiment
station have given good results in kill
ing these pests by spraying. It requires
persistent work, bnt if a lawn is spray
ed once eaoh month, or onoe in six
weeks, tbe dandelion is kept completely
in check. As seods are blown to great
distance by tbe wind, tbe destruction
of tbe established roots does not insure
future freedom from tbe pest, but
spraying is the easiest and most effec
tive method of keeping tbe dandelion
down wbiob has yet been fonnd. Use
iron sulphate in tbe proportion of two
pound for each gallon of water. Do
not spray within two days of tbe time
of cutting and do not out the grass or
water tbe lawn for two or three days
after spraying.
