Parents, Note the extra lining attachment covering parts which are not made double, thai
fellering a great deal ot the strain attendant opon the seams and other parts.
Seats, knees and arm-pits are points necessitating particular attention. They are
, made of only reliable materials, perfectly put together and in style, right up to the min

dences of tbe great liberality ou his
part are rather tokens ot an awakened
consienoe. It seems to have dawnbed
upon bim that the time has arrived
when be should think of giving back
to the people a portion at least of the
millions which he has taken from
their. For this be is, of course, de
serving of a fair measure of commen
dation, but he must not be disappoiu

of restoration any great amount of un
selfish generosity.
Nor should there be on tbe part of
the people any hesitation in aooeptiug
all that is given. Whatever the means
adopted by any man or set of men to
collect tribute fiom tbe publio, it
forms no good reason why a restoration
of what has been taken should be
flouted. Let the return of the goods be
accepted iu a spirit of thankfulness
that a sense of jutsice is at last pre
vailing over the disposition of greed.

Every citizen of Oregon should get
bnsy and advise his friends and ac
quaintances in other states that there
are ocly four weeks left in which to
get the advantage of the colonist rates
to Oregon points. These tickets will
be sold np to and including April 30th ;
there is lots of time to get in good
work. To know Oregon better and
particularly the community in which
yon live has become epidemic all over
tbe State. No branch of the Oregon
Development League is doing more
effective work than the fruit growers'
organization of Irrigon. They recently
sent out five thousand pieces of matter
io one delivery of the mail.
Someone asked ns why we don't
write an article denouncing the mail
order houses. In the first place the
subject is threadbare and besides the
people of tbia community have found
by experience that the Athena mer
chants can do as well or better by
them than Shears & Sawbuck or any
other mail order firm. What's the
use of saying more?
Thoso who have formed the opinion
that Oregon real estate has reached
the top notob are apt to be fooled, for
tbe way farms are selling, shows that
Oregon land has not yet reaohed its
limit.
An operatic production iu New York
City has been discontinued because
the patrons declared it indecent. This
is equivalent to an announcement that
the "smart set" of New York society
is spending the season abroad.
A Jeaden missile, sen crashing into
a human . body is a deporable and re
grettable act, even when performed by
an offioer in the discharge of his duty.
On the other hand the dignity of the
law. on whioh publio safety relies and
peace of the community depends must
' be upheld, even at the sacrifice of
human life. For this reason, the law
' gives the peace officer the right to ex
ercise his judgment in the use of fire
arms when neoeasary, in bringing law
breakers under arrest.
The earthquake at San Franoisco
instead of killing off the grafters only
stirred them np to do dirtier work. If
tbe hand of Providence dealt tbe blow
because of the wiokedness of the city
she had better try again.
The sensational reporters are having

By the terms of Senator Aldrioh's
RTirrnnnv bill, the secretary of the
treasury can give the New York banks
the free use of $400,000,000 a year of
publio money gathered at the custom

For when the greed for dollars Ryan's

Publio interest is now turned from
