Press Paragraphs Ed Koontz was in Walla Walla Tuesday. Warren Raymond is in town today from Walla Walla. W. P, Willaby and A. J. Willaby were in Pendleton yesterday. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. John Martin, August 28, 1906, a daughter. Mrs. J. E. MoDaniel has rented tbe Leeper cottage for tbe coming winter. Miss Minnie Naylor will attend school at Whitman college this win ter. Miss Bowles, of Walla Walla, is a guest of her sister, Mrs. F. S. Le Grow. -. ' Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Montagne of Ar lington are visiting relatives in this vicinity. Louis Bergovin, who conducts a meat market in Adams, was in town last evening. Henry Miller is moving bis family lo the Colbern cottage on the west side near tbe mill. With favorable weather conditions harvest will be about finished in tbis vicinity next week. A marriage license has been issued to Raymond Abbott and Elma Bosley, both of this county. S. B. Calderhead, general passenger aud freight agent of the W. & C. R., was in town Tuesday. V The Booher-Ferris threshing crew, after a .sucoessf ul season's work, will finish harvesting today. Miss Fern MoPheran, who visited her relatives here from the east, is employed in Pendletcu. 7 Mrs. Fred Roseuzweig came over from Milton Wednesday and spent the day in Athena with friends. G. W. Mrs. Lillian Downs-Dobson has re turned from an extended visit to rela tives at St Johns, Ore., and Hoqniam, Wash. Will Howard of Milton was in town a couple of days this week. He worked in the office of the Mosgrove Mercantile company in the absence of Manager Bette, who is confined to his home with illness. Mrs. I. M. Kemp received word yes terday that her mother is dangerously ill with typhoid fever at ber borne near Col ton, Wash. Mrs. Kemp bag left for her mother's bedside. She was accompanied by Mr. Kemp and their two little daughters. B. F. Mansfield, who for sometime has been afflicted with an abscess on one of bis legs, is again undergoing a painful attack. He is barely able to come down town. His brother, who was injured in a runaway last week, is improving slowly. General Organizer F. R. Petitt, of tbe Woodmen of tbe World, addressed the members of the local camp dnriDg a special meeting held Wednesday evening. X The first trip of the Walla Walla- Pendleton special will be made to morrow morning. Tbe train leaves Walla Walla at 7 a. in., arriving in Athena at 8 a. in. Returning, leaves Pendleton at 5:60, p. m., arriving in Atheua at 6:80 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Wood, who several months ago left Weston for Honolulu, have retruued on acconut of Mrs. Wood's health failing during their residence in the islands. - Mr, Wood was engineer on a large sugar plantation near Honolulu. C. W. Hollis versus Jane Carden is the title of a suit filed yesterday iu the circuit court to. compel tbe pay ment of a promissory note. It is al leged in the complaint that tbe note was issued in September, 1000, for $397.13, and that of this amount only $91.68 ha? been paid. ' The Gilbert Hunt machine shops at Walla Walla are just now one of tbe bnsiest places in that city. ' The out put this season has been tbe largest in their history, 100 threshing outfits having been turned out. Gilbert Hunt estimates that contemplated improve ments will cost approximately $50,000. The first field trial of the Coburn combination harvester took place yes terday at Snow Bros.' ranch near Mos cow.
