"Charles Metz returned Monday from
a bear hunt on Big : creek, 30 miles
from Salmon. He killed 23 bear and

plentiful this spring than they have
been for some years past. At least
40 bears have been killed this spring
in the Big Creek section. " i .,
MITCHELL IS SHOT TO DEATH
Slayer of "Holy Boiler" Meets Death
at Hands of Sister. '
Seattle, Wash., July 12. Revenge,
terrible, swift and premeditated sums
up the killing of George Mitchell by
his eighteen-year-old s sister Esther
Mitchell today. Esther Mitchell is the
girl for wbrmrGeorge shed the "blood
of Franz Edmund Creffield when he
shot down the leader of the so-called
Holy Rollers" in Seattle ou May 7th.
It was because of ; her alleged mal
treatment by the fanatical leader that
Mitchell took his life and risked hie
own, and his own cold-blooded murder
is his reward. . ? r -
Mitohell was about to board the i :30
train at the Uniou depot for Portland,
where he was to take up his residence
and begin his life anew, when Esther
eft her two brothers ostensibly for
the , purpose of; bidding George good
bye, but instead, as George turned
half around to greet her she produced
a revolver hidden under a cloak hung
over her arm, and fired once, the
bullet entering the left ear. , .
Mitohell fell to the ground dead,
and the weapon of death and destruc
tion was wrenched from the hand of
the child murderess by her brother
Fred, woiie another brother, Perry
Mitchell, caught the trembling form
of his sister in his arms, crying out:
"Oh, Esther, hwo could you do it.".
Quickly a commotion arose in the
depot and the protection of the police
was offered to the girl. She submit
ted to arrest without protest, and
when interrogated as to why .she had
commited the crime answered, "I was
commanded to do jt."
At the police headquarters Chief
Wappenstein questioned the girl as to
her motives for the crime. "I killed
him because he killed Joshua. We
were commanded to do it," she said.
