The Washington State University ball team, of Pullman, Wash., will play the Yellow Kids on the ' Athena grounds at 3 o'clock Wednesday after noon, May 16. This is one of the fastest college teams on tbe coast, aud a cracking good game is expected. Prof. George B. Marquis, principal of the Athena publio school, will leave when his school closes for Cam bridge, Idaho, near which place he will spend the summer on his home stead. Mrs. Marquis has preceded him, and is at present in Idaho. Delegates from Mignonette Rebekah Lodge No. 66, who will attend the grand lodge which convenes in Port land May 22 are Mrs. H; O. Worth ington, Mrs. M. L. Watts and Miss May Gross. Delegates to the grand lodge I. O. O. F. are H. O. Wortbing ton, M. L. Watts and G. W. Gross. The many friends of Leonard Doug las will be glad to learn that he is not so seriously injured as was at first ex pected. Since tbe swelling in his knee has decreased, the surgeon finds that no operation will be necessary, aud that probably no bad effects will re sult from the injury. The knee will be placed in a plaster cast A. M. Gillis is negotiating the sale of his lumber yards to the Whitehonse Crawford Co., of Walla Walla. An inventory ot the stock iu the Athena yard was taken yesterday and if the deal goes through, the sale will in clude the Gillis yards at Adams and Freewater also. - Mr. Gillis is com pelled to dispose of his business inter ests on account of ill health. Evangelist J. B. Conder will speak at the Christian ohurch Sunday at 11 a. m., on "A Soul Its Value and In fluences that Make for Eternity;" at 7:30 p. m., "Intellectuality and Indi viduality in Heaven." Mr. Conder is a man of experience as an evangelist and a Sunday sebpol worker and these subjects will be handled in a manner interesting to all. One of tbe great annual events in the lives of tbe Indians on the Umatil la reservation was scheduled to take place yesterday, , when tbe work of rounding up between 8,000 and 4,000 pouies was started. Aooording to Major Moorbonse, of tbe Pendleton Tribune, the Indians have about 5,000 head of ponies al together, and the annual roundup of tbe animals is about tbe keenest sport afforded tbe ever restless red man in this day of civilization. It could not be learned whether or not the full number would be corralled at the end of the big drive whioh began yester day, but it supposed that the major portion of the 5,000 will be inoluded. The corrals into which the horses will be driven are located on the head waters of the McKay and are about twenty-five miles from Pendleton. In spite of the great distance quite a num ber of the people have signified tneir intentions of going out to witness the fun. It is peculiarly fitting just at this time when the big Spokane and Port land naners are exploiting the drive which is now taking plaoe in Eastern Washington as tbe last of its kindtbat will ever be held in the West, that the Umatilla Indians should begin on their annual roundup, which contains nearly as many horses in the drive which is being heralded around the world.
