He will meet most of the people of Orogou and explain his positiou on important state questions. The people have a right to know those things and the Governor is more than willing that they should. His record is a good en dorsement of his fitness, for bis has been about the clearest adtninstratiou Oregon ever had. He will go before the people with this as bis platform uud the odds are with him by a long shot. The oommercial organizations of Portland are giving great publicity to the agitation of the idea of "Made iu Oregon," whioh is always a proper slogan. It is a oatob phrase that is being used on the stutionery and on buttons that ere worn by many. Aud why should it not bo popular. Every body in Oregon should take it tip aud be impressed with a movement that cannot help but build up the state It is not only a matter of pride, but a question of good business sonso. Oregon is good enough and so are Ore gon made goods. All voters should inform themselves upon the merits of the various consti tutional amendments to bo voted on iu the June oleotiou, under tho initiative aud referendum. Don't put off the task for a task it is, uutil election day gives too little time for mature considera tion of what may be very important mutters. . One of the worst features of the Cal ifornia calamity was the destination of the hospitul for the insane at Ag uew. Demented oreaures by the hundreds were oorralod iu nu inolosure, after tho destruction of tho building, aud were about to overpower the few attendants when the Hie ulaim was rsorted to, killing and uiainiiug great number. County politics will begin to wax warm immediately aud tho lust of the month will grow hotter aud hotter. Motocco is threatened vih n terri ble famine, owing to shortage of crops. Now if (iermauy and France will shure equal responsibilities in relieving the situation no one will object. AN UNNATUKAL L,W The Paoillo Moutbly. The wholo course of nature is iu obedience to fixed laws. All Nature is iu harmony aud all Nature is freedom. Tho harmony is that of an invariable, constant law. If a man lives temperately, he will receive the benefits. The pressure exerted by steam, when it is confined, gives the power which moves the traffio in the world, but if the boiler plate be weak in a spot, the same pressure will cause an explosion, destrnction of life and great suffering. Every living organ ism, animals as well as plants, is made up of cells and cell life. Pre cisely the same law which produces health and healthy cells, which makes bouefioial germs life creative, pro duces also disease aud makes death germs effective. In Nature there is perfect harmony, aud discord will be produced if a man has his way and could set aside disease, death and dis aster in order to save some valuable and noble human life, and thus make an exception to the great law. The proteotive tariff is a violation to the natural law. It began with the foundation of this government, and Alexander Hajnilton, who mar be call ed the father of the Dolicv in this country, frankly admitted it to be a bonus given to encourage the estab lishment of infant industries in an in fant country. Profound thinkers know that no natural law can ever be violated with ultimate good results, no matter bow plausible the theory and bow beuefloial the immediate results seem to be. The establishment of the vicious doctrine of protection has bronght untold ills to this country. In iact, tuis country would not nave so successfully overcome these evils, had it not been for its immense internal natural resources aud the perfect free dom of trade between the states. The proteotive tariff is a bonus taken out of the pooket of the consumer, who is the poor man or the average man, and given to the privileged few. Privileged because those who have the wealth to establish manufacturing plants are not many, and being once established they are secured from competition by the protective tariff for whoever under takes to oompete with them does so only to the point of the artificial profit secured by the tariff, and rather than go below that, the manufacturers will make common oauso against the public consumers. The protective tariff is a steal. By the brute force of law it puts its bands into the averago man's pocket and robs him for the benefit of a few. By t he brute force of law, it says to the consumer, "You shall not buy where you can buy cheapest." By brute force of law it says, "There shall be no competition, but we will build a wall around the oountry to protect us from the outside." Some of the consequences of this violation of a fundamental principal of freedom may be enumerated as follows: The crea tion of trusts, as the banding together of those having a common interest is always inevitable. The ownership of the United States Senate. The de nial of justice to tho Philippines, whioh are our colonies for the pur pose of beiug governed, but no our colonies for tho purpose of trade. Reaping maobines, nails, wire, and otbor things, are sold cheaper toMexi- J cans and to Russians than to citizens of tho United Statse. A man today is driving an immense business in ( w atones in JNew xoik by buyiug American wutabes iu Europe uuder contract, at such a price us to euable him to re-import them back to this country uud sell thorn cheaper than the American price. The laborer is fooled by the statement that tho tariff makes industries and furnishes em ployuiont. The fact is that tbo labor er's wages und employment depend upon the tariff law, depends on open competition, and the tariff law really puts tho laborer into the bauds of the niauufuotuier. Custom bouses ought to bo abolished, in order that society may oporate iu froedom and according to natural laws, and those taxes which are necessary for government ought to be raised by taxing the natural val ue of raw land. Tho protective tariff is an indirect tax aud is productive of great extrava gance, whioh extravagance would not bo permitted by the people out of any tax diroctly levied. A glance at the published Ingredients on each bottle wrapxr, will show that It Is mado wholly from native, American, medicinal roots, that it contains no poi sonous or habit-forming drugs, no nar cotics and no alcohol pure, triple-refined glycerine, of proper strength being used Instead of the commonly employed alco hol, both for extracting and preserving the activo medicinal properties found in the roots of tho American forest plants tmployed. It is the only medicine for women's pecular diseases, sold by drug gists, that does not contain a lurgo per centage of alcohol, which Is in the long run so harmful to woman's delicate, nerv ous system. Now, glycerine is perfectly harmless, and serves a valuable purpose by possessing intrinsic value all its own, and besides it enhances the curative effect of the other Ingredients entering Into the "Favorite Prescription." Some of the ablest medical writers and teachers endorse theso views and praise all the several ingredients of which "Fa vorite Prescription" is composed rec ommending them for tho core of tho very same diseases for which this world famed mcdicinn is advised. No other medicine for women has any such pro JeUinnl endorsement worth more than any number of ordinary testimonials. If Interested, send nnme and address to Dr. R. V. Pierce, Buffalo, N.
